New tree = HEAT
We have a dead tree on the beach site, again! This Japanese Maple was a replacement for yet another dead tree! Why can’t the beach site trees grow big & tall like the one at the house site? In the photo, just in front of the RV and above the golf cart is the Fountain Beech on our house site.
Not only was the bark peeling but there was a deep crack along the trunk.
Not a pretty site.
So a new tree came to be. An early birthday gift for Colin. Surprise!
Colin wanted to wait a year before getting a new tree but I went to two nurseries and found this one. I liked it for one big reason, $99.99. It is a Sunburst Thornless Honeylocust and suppose to be fast growing as well as tolerant of all conditions, sun. drought, wind or too much water. The perfect tree. I had a plan to have the old tree removed and this one planted while Colin was at work. I wanted to see if he would even notice the new tree. Unfortunately just two minutes short of completing the planting Colin came along! He likes the tree and loves the price. We have spent close to $700.00 on the other two that died!
Now comes the good part, as in the past, whenever we plant a new tree the sun shines and the weather becomes quite warm. Hot in fact. We are expecting highs of 29C for the new few days. The moral of the story is that we should have gotten a new tree a month ago and the weather would have immediately improved. I have now made a notation for next year! So now we have to do a good job to protect our new baby from heat stress.

I have come to learn about myself that I am most happy wherever there are trees! When I went to college I had a choice between attending Sacremento State University and Davis University. I ended up choosing Sacremento State because of all the lovely old trees on campus. In the condos where I live now (called Roundtree) there are so many trees and nice well kept grounds. I absolutely love the atmosphere and being outside walking about. So I say any money spent on planting anything especially trees is money well spent, even if they did die.
I hope to plant some trees on our site on the Isla this winter.
