Repair day!
Our appointment is for 7:30AM. Due to this and that our RV is finally getting into a Cummins service bay at 8:45AM. By now the entire zoo is packed into the car with food for the day. We ‘hope’ to get our house back tonight but no guaranties. Colin drops me and the zoo off at my parents about 10ish. Off he goes to work, all I want to do is sleep!!!! Not to be. Long story short….no wifi signals (they don’t have a computer) to steal so my day is reduced to walking the dogs, chasing the bird around Mom’s place..oh yeah…they have a cat..and reading, eating and stuff.
About 9PM we find out that there is a good chance our RV might be ready by midnite. Colin picks us all up about 10:30PM. Yup the rv is ready…it really had a problem..the exhaust manifold was leaking and had all welded together so they had to drill the bolts out. We have no idea but indications are that this had probably started in March on our return from Mazatlan. Mucho corrosion due to humidity and salt air. We are very fortunate that we did not have a fire. All is well to the tune of $2800.00 CAD, not pesos!!! So now at midnite we are looking for a place to sleep. Find a Casino just a few miles down the road. Tired yet again. The zoo is holding up well. Oh, I forgot to mention how dirty the RV was from being in the shop…major cleaning at 1AM!!!!

A repair shop open at midnight!! Thats way past my bedtime! Never a dull moment in the RV lifestyle. Keep up the good work with your Blog.
I absolutely loved it…………………..thanks so much. It makes me feel like I’m on the adventure with you…………….How well you’ve done Contessa………………………………..I can’t believe how you’ve managed to incorporate all the pics, editorials etc into the blog and make it a most enjoyable read. You’ll have to keep emailing me to remind me to check up on in. I love it. Thanks so much. So Edmonton cost a mere $6000.00 plus for an 80th birthday…………..You just gotta learn to cut down on the expenses or give Colin zero time off………one of the two!!!!
Great blog!!!
Sorry to hear about your RV problems, knowing we own her sister. What were the symptoms of the manifold? We have had ours on the beach for the last 5 years, I guess we better check it out. We are slowly changing our minds about returning to Mexico this winter, the Costa Rica trip is out, we can’t be without our mutts that long.
Great to hear you re rethinking Mexico!!
To answer your question re the manifold…the noise was like a constant rat-a -tat. You could also see some spotting behind the engine. Colin checked into this today and was told that at 75,000 miles this should not have happened. Also it was not a result of salt air or humidity. If you are serious about checking yours out, the best way would be for you to lift the bed and open the compartment. Then while Sandy is sitting with one foot on the brake she is to rev up to 1500 RMP’s while you listen and also put your hand around the manifold area to check for leaking exhaust.
Hope this helps.
I see you had a loose manifold, probably the bolts. We have 65,000 miles on ours no noise yet.
My friend from Prince George, Randy, is a retired heavy equipment mech. He knows almost everything about diesels. I will have him give mine a check over before we take off with them this winter.
thanks
Hi there, I must say I enjoy your blog. Sorry to hear of the
expensive exhaust issues but good no fire damage.
Manifold probably was not loose. Maybe the gasket went? No se. Should not have happened at 75000 miles.
Always something to check when you have your services, oil changes etc. done.
