Muy frio!!

It was a cold one last night!  Statistically it went down to 1C with the windchill at 6:00AM and by 8:00AM it was up to 3C (43F) but never got above 17C (62F).  Tonight is expected to be another very cold night here in Mazatlan. It wasn’t until I read the Mazatlan newspaper online that I realized how bad the wind was yesterday.  Here is a photo from the Noroeste…

According to the article the beaches were closed to the public in Mazatlan as well as here on Stone Island....we never got the memo! In addition the harbor was closed to smaller vessels due to 6-7 foot swells.

There has been some talk of damage to corn crops but that will be assessed once this cold front passes.  Tonight again it is expected to go down to 4C before the windchill.  With the windchill Mazatlan did hit record lows.  Here are a few photos from the Mazatlan Noroeste.

These people have no way to get out of the wind and cold.

We have an American friend living here on the Isla in the process of building a home.  At the moment there is no glass in the windows nor wood at the door, she was cold last night…here is what she wrote about last night…”I am sitting here under the covers, with two more blankets than usual, wool socks, a thermal shirt, sweater and a blankie over my shoulders …a heater…right next to me and I am still chilled….Wondering when this situation will be reversed and all will be back to normal….“!

Meet Markus, the night security guard here at Tres Amigos!

Markus is here to watch over us Rvers as we sleep – even in this muy frio temperature.  Colin spoke with Markus last night, he has on 4 layers, a shirt, 2 sweaters and a parka.  On his head is a wool toque covered with a baseball cap.  Gloves of course and wool socks, we just don’t know the number of pant layers.

When Markus is not walking about RV 1 or 2 with his guard dog, he lays in this hammock under an open air palapa! He never gets to go in from the cold at all during his shift from approx. 9 PM to 7AM!!

So last night we set  up a hot coffee bar for him, plugged into power at our site so he could have a hot coffee all night.  Next year I will bring him down some of those hot packs you can put into your socks and gloves to keep him a tad warmer.  He is only one of many suffering through this cold snap.  Our friend ( the one building the house) has a warmer place to sleep tonight.  Hopefully a few others will also!!

If you are coming south to Mexico soon or even next season don’t forget to pack some woolies or a jacket or even a blanket!  The locals will be most appreciative!  Let’s hope tonight is the last frigid night here!!
