Love is in the air…
…most especially here on the Isla. We have an Oriole nest in the making and we have a very very active hummingbird nest!!! Yes, love is happening.
One pair of hummers made their nest just behind an RV in the bougainvillea hedge.
That was excitement enough but then just this last Saturday, February 12th, an egg was deposited.
These photos were taken by Colin, who patiently waited and waited and waited to catch one of the parents returning to the nest!
There is a good chance that this pair of lovers may lay another egg today or tomorrow. You can be sure we will be watching and will keep you posted.
Isn’t love great? Whether you have a spouse, a partner, a daughter or a son, a dog or a cat, a special friend, be sure to give them a hug today! Happy Valentine’s Day!

We love the birds in Mazatlan-probably one of our favorite things. We love birds, anyway. But I think our favorite is the hummingbird, and often we are lucky enough to get a condo that has a palm tree right in front of the balcony and we can watch and photograph the hummers to our hearts’ content! Not as nice pics as Colin takes, but still good memories.
I see that bush all over Mazatlan, and wondered what it was. A tour guide told us its Spanish name, but of course I don’t remember that and he didn’t know the English version.
Ues ain’t love grand !!!
Incredible pictures! I will take a peek next time I am over there! How sweet it is…
Those photos are so charming! I love watching the whole movie, from nest building to the egg(s) hatching. A whole world right outside your window, and there is no admission fee.
Fabulous photography!!!! Well done Colin.
Can’t wait for the updates.
Hello Colin and Cantessa:
I read your blog every day and how I enjoy it! Your pictures today of the hummingbird are spectacular!
I am home in Ontario for a few weeks and so enjoy all the news that I read and the pictures that are posted.
With all the snow around and the wind howling, these pictures of the hummingbirds are very refreshing!
Thanks again for an interesting read.
