Avocados…in the freezer????
Did you know that you can freeze avocados? I didn’t either, but I do now.
Because of the oils in them they can be easily stored in the freezer. All you have to do is remove the pits, then either mash or puree them and be sure to add 1/2 tablespoon of lime ( or lemon ) juice per avocado which will will help prevent them from browning. Just put the amount of avocado you will want to unthaw into a ziplock freezer bag & press out any air. The avocado is good for up to six months in the freezer. So handy to have on hand for making guacamole.
Before we leave Mexico next spring, I am planning on freezing many avocados. No one said you couldn’t freeze them and bring them across the border!!! Shhh, don’t tell them…..

I didn’t know either! The avocados in Nayarit are huge and so very tasty. I doubted how good they would be because of their size but they turned out to be very tasty. Thanks for the tip ;>
Trinidad & Susie…I can see this coming in as a very useful thing while in Mexico
Sandie & George…I think if you have great tasting avocados as in fresh in Mexico, the taste quickly grows on you. I was never fond of them before Mexico.
Mary…really..unthaw is not a word…but everyone uses it! Yes I take my camera into stores all the time even when there is a sign that says no photos in the store…I took this one standing right next to the produce manager :)) Be stealth Mary!!
Not an avocado fan but I know lots of people that are so I’m going to pass this tip on to them.
Great tip!!
wow, I did not know this either, thank-you. By the way, “unthaw” is not a word, unless of course you are claiming it as an invention of your own 🙂 did you actually take your camera into the grocery store? I have always wanted to do that but thought it might be frowned on.
Good tip for the avocados, if you like them, we have not acquired a taste for them yet.
