Crisis, soap opera or…
…just another day in the lives of the 5C’s?? You tell me.
Colin left at 4:40AM this morning (Sunday) to get a spectacular sunrise shot for a client. Mission accomplished he came back home to get us all up, and to enjoy the morning with a coffee when he quietly said “have a look at Caeli!” . I almost jumped out of bed.
While he held her and obviously took her photo I called our vet, not on call this weekend. So I called them ( Mr & Mrs Vet) at home, no answer. So then I called Dr. Susan on her cell, no answer. So I called him on his cell….now this is serious stuff cuz he does horses and big stuff like that and even when she is not on call he passes us off to Susan. Gulp! But as you can see Caeli was in very bad shape. By now she was looking worse. So Dr. A answers his cell, he always does….he was at the polo field…’bring the dog to me, stat!”
Meanwhile Caeli is rapidly becoming more and more swollen….I figured it had to be a bee sting. Colin drove way over the speed limit to get to Dr. A who had his medical truck with him. I am beginning to lose count of the number of emergency drives we have mad. I stayed home with Carmeh. Colin called me 3 times during the 15 minute drive, he was worried Caeli wouldn’t make it, that her airways were collapsing….they found Dr. A, she got a shot and they were headed home. Meanwhile, Carmeh began to vomit….all over….stress or what??? Once home it took Caeli a few hours to settle down & for Carmeh to relax. Colin and I looked at the clock, it was only 10:00AM, the beginning of a long day.
I am happy to say that things stayed settled and we enjoyed our first 32C day.
I noticed that my clematis were finally blooming. This is a good year for them.
Funny how they start blooming at the top and work their way down the vine.

She really gets into it, doesn’t she? I know my Westies have tons of allergies, but dachshunds must have them too. Poor thing!
Caeli has made a complete recovery. She seems to be severely allergic to bee bites and swells up like this. A spider bite is not such a huge reaction. I have to say this was one of the worse we have had. Benadryl doesn’t help at all, she needs some serious IM injections of heavy duty drugs followed by oral Prednisone. I think is is a doxie thing. The worst we ever had was when Cloii got bit in her mouth by a bee while traveling in Alberta. She is only alive cuz the vet started an IV right there in the parking lot as we drove in.
Wish Caeli a swift recovery, it is hard to see them suffer.
wow, I am jealous of oyur Clematis, growing one here is hit and miss….so far I haven’t had a hot yet. Poor puppy, hope all is well.
Your poor babies. I feel so bad for them. We had the same thing happen to Skittlez when we were in Florida. I was a basket case. They gave her a shot and put her on Benadryl. So now we always have Benadryl with us so we can get one down here to help until we get to the vet. I sure hope they are both feeling a whole lot better now.
Good thing that you finally got hold of your doc. Hope all is well soon.
Poor sweet Caeli. Perhaps your Vet will take Molly on as a new patient when we move there. Does he do cats?
Oh my gosh, how nerve wracking was that? So glad everything worked out – sweet little doggies! Love your clematis – we have one growing on our fence by the barn at our PA home just like yours – don’t you just love the color?
Awe poor Caeli, she really has gone thru a lot, hope shes all better sooon… How are you?? Our 2 clematis are growing really well !! Take Care !! Poor Colin glad he didn’t get into a accident…
I am so happy to hear that Caeli is OK, that must have been scary. We worry so much about our pets.

When I saw your babies picture I thought it was my susie. Susie had the exact same bumps all over head and body. Under the bumps were very small scabs. Doc said allery to peanut butter. My friends year old doxie just passed away from bee sting, they got to him too late. I love my 3 dachshunds.
