Que pasa~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

….well it does seem that fall is in the air but we are back to heat  here in the valley so one day at a time.  However up on the mountains they did get a dusting of snow at Big White, one of our many ski hills!

The most important and very very big news is that one of our RVer friends Jessie won the gold. Not just any gold medal but a world champion gold!!

Congratulations Jessie & Doreen!!

Here is the link for the write up.  What more can you say to the duo who won the Badminton World Federation Senior Championships?  Way to go ladies!!  Looking forward to seeing you in Mexico, Jessie!

My personal big news is that I nailed the Mexican Peso at its peak for the year and have locked in 55,000 pesos at a great rate.  The exchange rate over last year will pay for our new palapa!!!!!!!  I ordered them on Saturday at the locked in rate.  Before some of you get all excited, we always pre buy mucho pesos, as we don’t get into Mazatlan much ( maybe once a month or even less ) and there are no ATM machines on Isla de la Piedra!  I need pesos for plants and more plants and my weekly 90 minute massages, and veggies and water and shrimp, etc.  Who needs to leave the Isla?  Everything is always delivered to our door!

Last night ( Sunday night ) we had a low of 6.9C, today a high of 22C but oh, oh, oh…..a low tonight of 0C with frost!!! Best go out and cover the tomatoe plants.  I’m on my own. Colin left at 7AM and won’t be home till close to 11PM tonight.  Just another normal September day for us.  But just wait till you see what a normal November day is for us.  Stay tuned!!

  1. Yes cool here too, soon we find warmer weather. Must be a good deal on pesos but a lot of cash to have on hand, hopefully its all honest people that read your blog.

I’m glad you locked in at a great rate. Not sure what all that means though. How much in American dollars is 55,000 pesos? How do you lock in a rate? I have a million questions as you can tell. Don’t think I’ve convinced my hubby to go to Mexico yet but you just never know.

Sandie, I called the back and ordered the pesos at the rate for that day. The pesos have to be brought in from the big bank form who knows where. Often you have to order the pesos and then pay the rate in effect on the day they arrive. Please ask all the questions you want.

I just got a Facebook message from our timeshare. They have installed an ATM right on the property so we won’t have to leave unless we need to, either. Last March, Jim and Millie had to make an extra trip to the Golden Zone to get more cash because they miscalculated the exchange rate at the first ATM. Our little store carries just about everything but meat, and it’s silly to take a taxi to buy beer and wine when it’s only a bit more expensive in our little store. We will have to leave the resort, however, when we go to see all our new friends. Too bad you guys won’t be there yet, but we have tons of points and are in the process of acquiring more, so we will be back in Feb. or so. We should come during Carnival.

Marty, it would be great to see you during Carnival, but anytime would be good. We should be there until the very end of March.

wow, I know that lady. She looks good (Jessica) Yeah on the pesos!

I would be interested in knowing which bank you deal with. The Royal really lowers the rate if you want cash and, as you said, they charge you the rate the day you pick up the pesos, not the rate the day they were ordered. They give a much better rate if you want a cheque or draft.

Here in the Okanagan we deal with Interior Savings Credit Union who locked in the rate for me at a peak rate. The past 2 years I have simply used a local Money Mart as their rates were better but not this year. I usually call every 3 days and over a 2-3 week period I make my decision as to purchase or not.
