Our night on the town!!

Almost too many activities to chose from, last Tuesday we had a choice of two parties, we stayed home.  We had already made plans for last evening so had to miss the big open house party here at Tres Amigos.  But we have been here almost six weeks and had not yet had a night out on the town.

We got on the panga about 5PM, there was a bit of a breeze. Our driver made sure he was protected. He teased us about being Canadians, Colin was in shorts and no jacket.

The pulmonias ( open air taxis ) move fast so we did put on a layer of clothing.

We were stopped for traffic just before the mercado, always a busy place. The view to the right.

...and the view directly across where we sat to the left. A mix of upscale and basic merchandizing.

A quick, no not really, trip to a fabric shop. First you have to chose from hundreds upon hundreds of fabrics, then wait in line for a salesperson to cut the fabric and give you a receipt. Then you go to another line to pay the amount on your receipt where you are given a stamped receipt that you take over to yet another line. Finally it is your turn, you are now able to exchange your receipt for your piece of fabric. Quite the process, time consuming but efficient in a certain way. Can you see me waiting patiently in line?

When we finally exit the store it is dark and we have 15 minutes to get to Paul & Nancy’s home.  Thirty five minutes later I call and admit I have taken a wrong turn!!  Colin kept saying just take a pulmonia and I said no, they are just around the corner.  I neglected to find the right corner.  Paul said go right for 4 blocks, almost 7 blocks later we got there.  They have a beautiful home that they have worked on for 4 years, it truly is spectacular, in fact we were so impressed that we took no photos.  Next time we will.  After a much needed glass of vino and some appies we walked back to the Plazuela Machado for dinner.

A new restaurant, called La Bohemia opened about a year ago. The inside is part of a ruin.

The tree goes right through the ceiling. In fact part of the ceiling is open to the night skies. Must be lovely during a full moon!

We chose to sit outside where we could watch people passing and listen to some interesting music. I have to say that I was floored when the first few pieces where French songs!!

As you can see I still talk with my hands. Don't you just love the lights. You can't watch the video, this is just a screen shot.

The time passed so quickly.  Nancy is a very well known blogger on all things Mexico.  Checkout out her blog sometime.  She also runs a very interesting forum, Mazatlan Exchange Forum, where you should be able to find out anything you ever need to know.  We had a wonderful time and can hardly wait for the next night out!

What a lot of fun! We just love those restaurants with seating on the street where you can watch all the local activity while enjoying a leisurely dinner. You are never rushed in Mexico, it is considered very impolite. This would be the perfect night out for us.

Sure sounds like a fun night for all – you surely deserve it! I can’t believe you’ve been there almost six weeks already.

Hard to believe it is so chilly there. The boat driver makes it look like he is in the middle of a winter storm.

The night we went to Plazuela Machada, we ate at Pedro y Lola and listened to a great Gringo blues band. There are enough good places to eat we could go there every weekend night while we are there and still not hit all of them!

I love that fabric store! I need to go there when I don’t have a bunch of family around pretending to be patient, but really wanting to move on! I have gotten some really pretty pieces there, and for really cheap.

We need to arrange to meet Paul and Nancy. I talk to her all the time on Facebook. She and I are big Kindle fans.
