YESTERDAY….
After two walks I decided I wanted to take a third walk, straight down the beach to Elsy’s for a marguerita!
I was able to twist a few arms to come along. A girl can't go drinking by herself!!
Stone Island was alive with many Nationals enjoying vacation time. This couple danced for a long time enjoying the sounds of one of the wandering mariachi groups.
I had bought a lovely Pashmina shawl from this lady last year, today she was promoting blouses and wool shawls. She told us she is 78 and has been selling on the beach for 35 years. She is a real sweetie with a mouth full of gold fillings. Gord decided not to take the shawl.
He did however covet this hat!! It is not for sale but belongs to a vendor selling sunglasses but the fellow was willing to strike a deal for a used hat for 200 pesos. We all said no, buy a new one Gord!! I am certain we will see someone knocking on Gord's door selling hats in the very near future.
My turn, I just had to get this sparkling bit of sun.
The kids were having a great day taking rides on this little guy.
Two delicious margueritas later it was time to head back for some reading in the sun. So far a perfect day.
Then I started getting messages to check in with Dad. Mom was not having a good day. I had to call each sibling to try and put the story together. My brother thought things were 50/50. Plus they had changed rooms again, this time because of a staff shortage. Mom is still in ICU and likely to be there for several more days. After many calls back & forth to the hospital and to Dad re the legal issue of giving me information ( seems that they have lost the first set of permissions )I finally was put through to a Dr. He started with the standard ‘she is doing as well as can be expected’ but I finally did get some solid information which even my family there had not received. Mom was in very very bad shape when she had her surgery. In addition to the complete valve replacement she also had a hole in a second valve which was repaired. She is still groggy seven days post surgery not from drugs they are giving her but from her own body not wanting to wake up. Her hands are shaking so badly that she needs to be fed and somehow aspirated fluid into her lungs. There is a fear of pneumonia plus she has been intubated with a feeding tube as she has some swallowing problems which are being looked into.
So I am now satisfied that Mom is alright and have conveyed that to all of the family. I tried to explain to Dad that it is a matter of asking the right questions at the hospital but it does help that I have nursing background. However I do believe that the hospital should have explained in more detail what has been happening.
And that was ayer……yesterday!

Longdog2… well it was a nice for a few hours, till reality set in again today!
Great pics C….you definitely need some down time…glad your mom is doing as well as can be expected..it will just take her a wee bit longer to recover considering her age and the shape she was in with her heart…just a bit longer and I’m sure we will see a big improvement…I will keep the prayers coming her way…and yours…

This has been a rough Christmas for you. I’m glad you were able to get some more concrete information on why your mother was not doing as well as you expected. As you said, it sometimes helps to have a medical background to know what questions to ask. I’ll keep both of you in my thoughts with prayers for a quicker turn around for mom.
