Yesterday and today!!

It is getting scary.  We are starting to think about leaving, yes you read right, home!!

Today for the first time since November I checked all the bank accounts and Visa bills!  We are in great shape.  I have been so relaxed that I never even checked, just let the system I had put into motion in October take care of itself.  But now I have to arrange a few things for April and start to plan our return to Canada.  We never have a return plan as it seems life dictates which direction we will go.  We may be going home via San Diego but I have to try and fit Lake Havsu in there somehow.  Looks like we will be backtracking about 400 miles.  Details, details, details.  That is my next task.

Colin meanwhile has started his annual waxing of the RV.  We do hire Pablo to wash it and do some things but Colin prefers to wax his RV himself and today is day 2!!  So much to do and so little time.  I wish it was November and I could start all over.  We haven’t spent enough time with friends, either RVers nor our Mazatlan friends.  Not enough beach time, not enough city time, just not enough time. The clock keeps ticking.  We truly strive to enjoy each day to the fullest and even that particular moment.

Yesterday was massage day, beach day and dog loving day and another great dinner but today brought business to mind, banking, calls to ‘establishments’ and some bureaucratic types which get me stressed plus preparing our deposit for our return here next season.  All of these are things I have neglected, not thought about for several months.  For those who are retired, going home is simply an extension of their daily vacation, but for us we go home to work!!!  On the other hand, that work is what allows us to take all this time off during the winter months.  BIG SIGH!!

Enough….I did the basics and within the next week I have 2 more days of work to to but for now….right now….today….time to open the vino 🙂

Mom update

She is much better, fired a doctor yesterday and frankly I don’t blame her.  Her appointment was for 3 PM and she was seen at 10:30PM!!!  The others in the waiting room told her that this was normal for this Dr.  😥

She is walking with her walker 2 X per day and sounds wonderful on the phone.  I use to hear so much tiredness and exhaustion in her voice but she sounds so wonderful now.

But how I know she is almost normal….she scolded me…..I really should be wearing a hat outside, so she says!!  Love you Ma!!

Oh, well, even when you go home, you have a beautiful spot.

You really have the best of both worlds.

We are going to have to work over the summer as well. We are too young to start taking out our pensions.

I really like your thoughts on making the best of each moment for each day !!

Like they say – time flies when you’re having fun! We know what you mean – when you talk about thinking of going home – making plans, etc. We are opposite of most people – we stay home in the winter and head to our beachhouse in the summer. We always fill “bummed” when those four months come to an end and we have to head back to PA. Aren’t we lucky to beable to do what we do? Enjoy each day – oh the memories!

So glad your mom is doing well again!
Lots of hugs to you all!

  4. yes reality sets in and paradise does wind down now back to work.
Hope all works out and you can retire soon.

Glad ma is getting back to being ma! That’s just what they do!

A little off topic – but when you are travelling between Mazatlan and Culiacan by car, do you only travel via the toll road or do you use the regular hwy 15 ? Any comments regarding toll road vs. non-toll roads heading north ? Thanks.

    • contessa says:

We only use the toll roads. Such a small amount of money, for toll going and coming plus fuel coast was about 800 pesos. Do you have a more specific question?

  8. Stede says:

Well, I’d heard that the toll road is more dangerous due to less traffic and it’s remoteness and therefore easier to get stopped by banditos. Planning my trip down for next year and watching your sight to learn more…..

    • contessa says:

We have done both the libre and the cuota roads and prefer to do the toll road because of the RV. Too much stop and go with the little villages and many more topes. There was one incident a few years ago on that particular toll road but there have been no further problems. I would say that 95% of RVers heading south along the coast use it.

Thanks. Very helpful information, as always.
