Red Snapper !

About a week or so ago, Colin went across to the fish market to pick up some dorado!

How we get to the fish market...

No dorado, not in season!  Not in season!  We hadn’t heard that before but have since found out that at certain times there is a ban on catching dorado.  We were also told that January was just not a good month for shrimp or any fish!

Fish was on the menu so he got some snapper.

This was taken in early December, a train was coming thru the fish market, not a normal occurrence.

Tight squeeze~

The only way he could get fillets was to buy a kilo of red snapper or just a smaller entire fish.  Of course he bought the kilo; 70 pesos for a kilo, about $5.50 for 2.2 LBS!  Great deal and great price but I don’t really like snapper!  I don’t think he knew that.  What to do!

My friend Mr Google suggested a marinade of lime juice, orange juice, garlic and a few spices.

This was only 1/2 of the fish we had to cook...

I was pleasantly surprised, no fishy odor but moist, tender and delicious!

Of course we had more than enough left for the next dinner. This time we had fish burgers but with a twist. We BBQ'd the potatoes, we had French Fries with a slight BBQ flavor and certainly fat free. Great invention Colin.

We still had snapper left for fish burritos the next day!  Three meals for $5.50!!  Plus they all tasted different.  Would we do it again?  Only if I can’t get dorado!

  1. Good deal for the red snapper and the meals look delicious, marinade with some spices and you can make almost anything taste good.

Ok, now I’m hungry! Got any more?

  3. Great deal! I will have to remember that marinade, it sounds really good. Would have loved to have seen that train going through the market.

Hey that’s the way we do our potatoes on the BBQ all the time. It’s great because they don’t take long when in wedges. I usually I put a coating of olive oil on and perhaps some seasoning – depending on the mood – and pray that G doesn’t burn them. I will say with our Weber he usually does a good job. Can’t believe you don’t like snapper!!! Love it baked in the oven with the marinade of olive oil, garlic, white wine and topped with copius amounts of fresh parsley and chopped green olives.

Looks good, Contessa! It’s funny how everyone has their own fish tastebuds for their fav fish. Hubby catches black seabass and flounder in the summer (fishing the ocean). He catches other kinds, too, but we only like the sb and f.
