Carnaval 2012

Mazatlan is working round the clock to get this event off the ground.

We were in town on Monday and saw many changes including banners and lights strung along the malecon.

For the 114th Carnaval 2012, the theme is The Party of the Empires/La Fiesta de los Imperios. France represents the Child Queen, Russia the Queen of Floral Games, Rome the King of Happiness, and China, the Queen of Carnaval.

All along the malecon, giant paper mache statues, called monigotes have been erected.

I went into town today for a luncheon meeting and walked the malecon from Hacienda Hotel to Sixto Osuna, a very long walk. This photo shows the size of these statues as compared to the man on the right.

Along the way I saw several homes that line the parade route. What a perfect way to catch the parade, on your own balcony.

Having your own bano makes the parade viewing much easier!!! There are signs everywhere offering the use of a bathroom for a certain price. This place puts a great value on bano use while selling cerveza at a good price.

This group of locals are simply camping out in an empty field. It rained yesterday, note the dark sky. Must have been a horrid night for them all.

Many of the main roads are blocked off at night allowing the streets to fill with partiers. Most of the streets are strung with lights and the giant paper mache statues are lit up.

There will be music everywhere, today all was being set up.

The streets were chaos......impassable in some areas.

Corona and Pacifico truck were everywhere you looked. Beer stands are everywhere. Hard to believe that all that beer is going to be drunk in just a very few days.....

This sculpture has been made for the Palzuela Machado gardens. I didn't check what it was made of but it is so perfect sitting there.

Let the Carnaval begin………..enjoy!

I saw the big Roman soldier on the way to the grocery store. We got here fine, but for some reason my Fire won’t let me do email. I’ll get on the office computer tomorrow and we can talk about getting together.
