What a day?
Our vet was an hour late……but we were not upset as she was coming in from vacation to do Carmeh's surgery. While waiting for Susan to arrive her daughter Jessica ( it is a husband, wife and daughter vet team ) gave Carmeh her preop.
Caeli fell asleep while Carmeh, the patient paced. Finally she settled down while Colin held her and Caeli snuggled her from behind.
I felt so bad leaving her there, I had tears in my eyes. We are more paranoid than most as we have lost a dog on the OR table in the past but we had a meeting in Kelowna re the house so as soon as Susan arrived and took her into the surgery room we left. Caeli surprised us by staying awake in the car and seemingly being in charge something Carmeh normally does.
Kelowna is extremely smoky. There was a fire on the Westside due to a lighting strike last Friday, it was mostly controlled by Sunday night but then the winds picked up.
...and the fire grew from a controlled 4.4 hectares Sunday evening to 27 hectares with constant winds Monday evening. 50 homes are on evacuation alert!!
After our big Kelowna meeting we went to check on the new place…..the work seems to be happening ever so slowly. Will they be ready by the 7th? They say they will.
I love our LR fan and you can see a hall light back there and the outline of the kitchen cabinets. The window moldings are in and look great. This will be the view someone paddling on the lake will see.
By now we thought Carmeh would be ready but not for a few more hours so we went home to so some business stuff. Finally it was time to go pick her up. Lots of instructions and meds to give over the next week. She was so happy to see us, her tail never stopped wagging. Her poor eye looked so sore. We also had her teeth cleaned at the same time, 2 for the price of one anesthetic. When we got to the car Caeli moved as far away as she could from Carmeh! Once home Carmeh slept for a bit but Caeli refused and still refuses to have anything to do with her sister or even with us. For some reason she is upset. Maybe because she was top dog for a few hours???
Carmeh is going to drive us, well me for certain, nuts over the next 10 days! She requires constant supervision. I had to call the vet's office because there was no way she could drink water or eat with the collar on….they said we could take if off for that and then put it back on. Well I may be an RN but taking that dog collar off requires skills I don't have. Somehow we managed but she is still dopey….I dread tomorrow.
This is the closest they have got so far......
She is doing well overall so now we continue day by day. Thanks for all your comments and expressions of support. You really do make a huge difference. Posted at 10PM Monday night.

Elaine….we got velcro…..almost as goo as snap on!
Sandie…Caeli is still keeping her distance but once this morning when Carmehs’ collar was off for feeding she snapped at Caeli to sort of let her know she was still the boss.
Longdog2….you are so right, she wants to move and run and isn’t too keen on sitting still for snuggles.
TnT…..it is good to have her home…..took your advice and had a more relaxing evening last night.

happy to see she is home and doing well…those collars can be a pain to get off and back on for sure…I purchased a ‘snap’ one it was much easier…hope she feels better soon….
Our son bought one of the snap ones for their beagle and it is much easier to get on and off. I think Caeli doesn’t understand how come Carmeh smells so different and has that weird thing around her neck and gets upset. She’ll be fine in a day or so. Poor babies. It’s so hard to see them like that.
Glad to hear that Carmeh came through just fine. She won’t be too happy when she isn’t feeling so dopey. Hope she heals up fast and everything is good. She’ll need extra snuggles.
What a major relief to have Carmeh back at home where she belongs !!

I think Sandie is right-Merlin mopes like that if there is anything different about Chloe. Dogs hate change, I’m convinced of that!
