EMAIL HACKED!!!!

If you received an email from either myself or Colin about being stuck in Spain and asking for money please ignore it.  Both of our computers have been compromised, all email contacts, inbound and outbound as well as our address book.

We are unable to send out a mass email re what happened, our server will not allow it.

PLEASE REPORT THIS SPAM EMAIL YOU RECEIVED FROM US TO YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER.  It will help to trace whoever did this to us.  As many of you know this is both our business and home email.  Many of you have called from all over including Mexico. Dozens have emailed and we appreciate your help in letting us know this happened.  Thank you for your friendship and support.

New email address for Colin is  colin@gmail.com

UPDATE  Colin's email address is contessa549@gmail.com

In addition to this we have been dealing with leaking gas in the hew house……that is now under control, thank goodness.  It has been quite the morning.

I will be posting about the last few day in a few hours!

Please report our email spam to your internet provider!

When I got that email from you I figured that instead of sending cash to Greece, I would buy you a margarita on the beach in Mazatlan. Hope this works! 😉

Those Internet scum sure seem to pick on you a lot!

You mean it was just a scam ?? Darn, Teresa and I had our bags packed, and were ready to head off to Spain to rescue Colin !!

Regarding your “Gas Pains”, it sures seems like there are a million bugs to work out with a new house, condo, RV, vehicle, or whatever …

We will raise a glass tonite hoping that you can soon sit back and enjoy your BEAUTIFUL new home, with those amazing views !!

    Hugs, TnT

This just happened to me two days ago. It might have even been an email from me to you..hacked, of course, that got you. Paul and Nancy said the one from me was soliciting money from Rumania! Sheesh…

I had my tech guy come over and run several tests to make sure all is now well, after I changed the passwords.

Wasn’t in our inbox but looked elsewhere and yes, there it was…in the spam… and now deleted! What a nuisance for you!!

Hi Colin and Contessa and anyone else reading this.

It has come to my attention some years ago, a tip to thwart this kind of attack on your computers.

    Here it is…..

Go to your address book in Outlook Express (or similar) and create a new contact.
    You name this contact: 001
Don’t add anything else (ie. email address, etc.)

What this will do is place the 001 at the very top of your address book. What happens is when a hacker (actually their PC) searches your address book for names with an ‘@’ symbol, it gets to the
001, and, not finding anything such as a full email address, is stumped and moves on.

Now this is supposed to work. There is no harm in trying this. I’ve been doing this for years and, touch wood, my PC’s have not been compromised.

    Best regards,
    Hugh Martell

Unfortunately I think we just need to get used to being hacked from time to time. BTW; love the view out your window!

  7. Marty says:

Yep, we got one! Bresnan had already flagged it and it had big warnings all over the message. Got your new address in my contacts.

  8. Heri says:

Hi Contessa, I’m glad there’s nothing happened to you, thought for a moment that was real and I was sending a text msg to may dad asking for help to you when I saw the email “we were hacked”, well everything it’s ok then, fortunately, Hugs to you and Colin.

Thanks for the heads up Contessa!

We have been lucky over the years, the combination of AVG free anti virus software and the Thunderbird E-mail program that has something called Spam assassin has helped. We also never allow Thunderbird to open the E-mail, if in doubt about who it’s from I dump the E-mail without opening.

I am also using Firefox as my web browser, it seems bore resistamt to hacking than Internet explorer. Firefox and Thunderbird are also free.
