Adios…

Adios snowbirds!!  The last of  those driving who live on our street left in their car  this morning.  They are driving to Palm Springs where they rent a condo for the winter. Safe travels Michele and Robert.  There are still 2 couples left here who will fly to their homes in Yuma and Tucson on October 31.  They are older now and have vehicles and homes in both places but they use to drive their RV's south for the winter.  So that just leaves us with an RV on Lake Lake, as our street is called, who will still head south…sometime!!!  Sniff!!  However we won't be lonely, on this loop of the street there are 3 homes that will remain occupied all season long and on the other side of the street there are 6 homes that will be occupied all winter.

Holiday Park is emptying out but there are still many who remain year round and enjoy planned events at the rec centre.  Our friends Pat & Gord  will be leaving next week and then we will feel alone.  However we will see them in Centro in Mazatlan.

A big adios to Colin who left at 6:30AM on West Jet for Winnipeg to see his Mom.  She turns 98 on Oct. 28th which was our original RV departure date.  Because the flights were already booked Colin went this morning but it would have been nice to be there for her actual birthday but he will make his three days with her special.

When I stepped out of the house to drive him to the airport just after 5AM I was almost blown away by the wind coming off the lake.  I could hear the lap of the waves on the beach and it was very cool out there.  Good thing I had white socks on in my black sandals 🙂  Many asked us why we sold our home across the road and moved to the lake site because in the winter it is cold and windy.  That it is, as we now know, but the view is certainly worth it especially with our cozy fireplace.  I think it would be very difficult for the girls to do their business here in the winter as there is zero protection from the elements on this site.  Guess that is why we go south!

I was sort of watching for Colin's plane to take off but I think it took off in the other direction, into the wind as opposed to flying over our house and I missed it.  I will miss him while he is gone.  Just me and the girls.

When he gets back we will have time to put our yard away for the winter and maybe hang a few pictures inside.

Love the pic of your home from that angle – so pretty! I was wondering what it would be like to live there thru the winter – esp. with all those windows – you will sure appreciate your fireplace. By the way, we (I mean family members & friends here) all wear sandals, crocs, etc. with socks thru the cold months – not a problem – as long as the snow isn’t too deep! Enjoy your new home while you are waiting to head south!

Connie…… I love that angle also. We have double paned argon filled windows, extra insulation and a good furnace and fireplace. Should be good to -23C! hoep I don’t have to try the sandals in the snow.

George….I shall enjoy your posts even more now that you are south of the Canadian border.

Longdog….you are absolutely right. The girls have fleece jackets but hate to wear them.

  2. Its hard to see everyone else head south while you are still hanging around. Hopefully you can get going soon.

By the time you get to head south this year, you will definitely appreciate it even more. And you are getting to see a season up there in frost land that you don’t usually get to see. The girls may need sweaters!
