Carmeh has a big problem :((
Saturday night of yet another long weekend in Mexico and we discover that Carmeh has a huge ouch!
What to do? We couldn’t find any vets that were open. I spent a lot of time googling the situation. We had no idea what to think, an ant bite ( no she wasn’t in agony with the itch ), a spider bite ( possible but in the past her face swells ), a broken toe ( don’t think so as she doesn’t yelp when we manipulate it ) and we could not find any thorns or spear grass but we haven’t ruled that out.
She does not seem to be in pain although she is limping and of course wants to lick and lick and lick it some more. That is how we discovered the problem by her licking and gnawing at her paw. I found some Viaderm-K.C., a topical corticosteroid, in my dog first aid box and applied that with gauze on top and then a wrap held in place with masking tape. We did that twice last night.
This morning we borrowed some epsom salts from a friend in RV2 and made her soak her paw for 10 minutes.
We would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Meanwhile we will repeat the soaking in epsom salts three more times today along with the Viaderm cream.
I don’t think we will find a vet open until Tuesday but will give our vet in Kelowna a call Monday morning.

That looks nasty! I think you’re on the right track with the treatment. Possibly a spider bite.
Poor girl! I hope you find out what it is quickly!
Our fur babies, when they are in trouble, no one can describe the worry!
Hope the situation sorts itself out soon!
Oh, so sorry about the sore paw!!! Hope you get an answer soon. Can’t imagine Luci sitting like that with her paw in water…. such a good girl!!!
Oh my goodness, poor baby. I think I would try half a benedril pill morning and night. It should help with the swelling and won’t hurt her. I can’t believe she is sitting there soaking. On the other hand, I know all about how quickly they can get a bandage off.
Get well soon. It’s hard to get those things to heal when they are always wanting to lick the wound. Patience. b2tw
Looks nasty, hope you find a remedy soon.
Poor Carmeh, hoping she’s all healed.. Been so lucky with Sara..
Susie…..she is going much better, almost normal.
Margie….good to hear form you but sad to read about your Westie. Carmeh’s toe swelling did go down with the epsom salts and the antibiotics are working and the actual toe swelling is also going down.
Looks like the same type of tumor that my Westie had on his foot. It popped up overnight. It did not hurt him but looked ugly. I had it surgically removed. If it is the same thing, no ointments or salves or soakings will have any affect. The vet told me that I could have it biopsied (sp??) to see if it was cancerous, but I passed as even if it was I would not put him through chemo. that was 2 years ago and he is fine! Keep us updated on Carmeh’s progress..
