There’s a new girl on the Isla!
One thing we are going to miss is our twice daily horse parade.
This mare had her foal on Tuesday afternoon and just hours later they had her and the baby walk back down the beach. This was taken the next morning as they came back to their working area. Here the wee one is just 1.5 days old.
This is the first time that I have never seen a horse so young.
Isn't she sweet?
I have no idea why they had her do the trek home the day of her birth and back up the beach the next morning but since then she and her Mom have been staying in a secluded yard not too far from here.
In my last post I mentioned our adios dinner with some Isla friends. Well the very next day we returned to the same restaurant, El Valero, with some Mazatlan friends for a final luncheon. Renee and Greg love food and love to cook and really are quite the gourmet pair in the kitchen but we just knew they would enjoy eating here on the Isla.
Colin was wanting breakfast so at 1:00PM he was served a very tasty omelette complete with pan fries and toast.
I had fish tacos in a soft shell, which were very nicely spiced but way too much food for me.
Renee decided that her coconut shrimp were the best she has had in Mazatlan.
Greg ordered pulpo ( octupus ) and was very detailed in how he wanted it prepared and the type of accompanying broth he desired. I think he was very pleased with his meal. The bonus was that they both enjoyed the margaritas and I think they are even fussier about them than I am.
It was definitely the perfect location for our final adios. These two hit the road back to California Friday morning. Safe travels. See you next season.
I really have to stop saying all these goodbyes, way too much good food 🙂

George….you are so right, a perfect meal with great friends can’t be beat.
Lynda…..I think I am ready for my house. For now I have had enough of the sand and the dust and the bugs. Come October we will be ready to head down here pronto.
Sue…we had a friend ( who owns a horse ) visit in January and he assured me that even though I thought that some of the horses looked in not such great shape that he thought that they were all being well cared for.

Ahhh, parting is such sweet sorrow! What a wonderful season you’ve had, but maybe home is sounding good!
The wee one certainly is sweet, but her poor mom is almost at the point of starvation. Not a good thing. She’ll lose more as she tries to nurse her baby, she has no reserves for herself. Very sad to see.
Nice pic of you two on top and those coconut shrimp are making me hungry.
We saw you there both days, the food is good and the staff is the friendliest on the beach.
Welcome to the blog Fredrick and thanks for your comment. El Valero is a wonderful place to stop at on Stone Island. It is our go to restaurant here in paradise. I wish you would have said hello. Perhaps we will meet next season.

.I agree that some of them look thin, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing for a horse’s health, but that mare is way past thin and will have a tremendous drain on her body for the next few months til the little one is weaned. (We’ve had horses for most of our adult lives)
Not much you can do about it though. We loved the time we spent in Mexico some years ago, but the attitude toward most of their animals makes it difficult for me to get much interest in returning. I don’t mean to say they are cruel, I know they’re not. I think it may just be a cultural thing…..
Sue, I can’t comment about the horse in question as I know noting about horses but at least for the past five days they have let the mother and baby stay in a compound and rest. It was out on the beach end of the day yesterday running with the others and seemed fine. As to ‘a cultural thing’. I agree. We see some dogs so ill treated and ignored yet others have the very latest in collars and leashes.
