Almost ready
The girls know that something is in the works. They are stalking us. Both of them want to be held and cuddled. Each time the power washer goes on they get upset. As each piece of our yard from the past 5 months is packed away they become more visibly upset. Yesterday afternoon we turned the front seats in the RV around back to the driving position. Hopefully this will help them realize that we will be starting a driving trip soon. I so wish that I could understand what they were thinking. Meanwhile we just keep plugging away. It seems to me that we are taking more time this year to do a deep clean as we pack. For instance, we took everything out of the pantry and sorted out what to keep, what to chuck and what to pass on to one of the locals. This will make our unloading job much easier when we get back home.
First thing on the to do list today was to power wash the dust screen. It was a tough job this year as our garden has grown so much.
This screen is so important in keeping the dust out of our RV. Look at that dirt.
It is a true dust screen and it does trap the sand and the dust. Not sure how we would survive without it as we still do get a lot of dust inside.
Three years ago there were no plants on the other side of the fence, so between them and the dust screen things are better each year.
We hired Ishmael to help us for a few hours today. The worst job was going between the fence and the plants to take the screen down. You can tell by his facial expression that he doesn't like this part of the job. The screen is clean and ready to do it's thing next season.
The next thing on the list was to take down our dog fence. Caeli has to be tied up as she loves to wonder everywhere. Carmeh stays close as she doesn't want to be left behind.
In typical Mexican style the fellow who we hired because he had a truck never showed up at the appointed time. So we just drove up to the embarcadero and hired a truck pulmonia. One load by truck and five loads by our car and we were done.
While Miguel was here with his truck we asked if he could help bring our stairs up off the beach.
This is our normal practice but last year we left them standing on the sand for the use of the RV Park owner who moved onto our site when we left. Sadly both the stairs and our gazebo were swept away during a storm last summer. This year they are being protected.
What we have in our storage area locally referred to as a bodega. Where the heck did all that stuff come from? No wonder our now empty site looks so huge.
This is Alfredo, the guy who does the laundry here on the Isla. He does all of our laundry for about $10.00 per week. Always sad to say adios.
A sad day indeed. We said adios to so many of the locals today and received and gave so many heart felt hugs. We haven’t even left but so look forward to seeing our Isla community come November.

I kind of feel sad that you are leaving too! November will come soon enough and you’ll be putting all your things out again.

George…..soon on the road but traveling much faster than you would but then we are different than most.

Oh, your site looks so empty and barren. No wonder those doggies are upset– I’d be too! Only if they realized how humid, rainy and miserable it’d me if they stayed (and how nice it will be when they get back to Kelowna)! Well, give them lots of pats and kisses. Millie sends them a tail-wag!
Lynne…..I wish I could explain it all to them. Actually once we get back to Kelowna they are usually depressed as they miss the freedom of walking off leash on a beach. It takes a few weeks to get them used to being on a leash and walking on pavement. We sort of have to pull them along.
This is causing me a big lump in my throat…..more so because I had the pleasure of meeting you, Colin, and the girls. Your little corner of the Isla was so ALIVE when I arrived! It makes me sad, but I also know it will no doubt feel good to get back to your little slice of summer paradise!
Oh Suzanne now don’t get me going with the lump in the throat. Our site here looks so huge with all of our stuff put away. I sometimes wish that we could be minimalists and just put out 2 chairs and a tiny table but we really like our stuff and our comforts not to mention my huge garden here.
I remember something that someone once said about leaving. “You have to say goodbye before you can say hello again.”
Your leaving makes me sad, as I love Mexico and living vicariously through your photos and posts.

I’ve been out of touch for almost two weeks so forgot you would be getting ready to roll north. Once you get on the road you will be looking forward to seeing your beautiful BC casita.
