Tuesday afternoon Colin wanted to go visit a new client. Did I want to come? Not really, I have things to do. It’s a winery he said. You wouldn’t believe how fast I was ready to join him 🙂
50th Parallel, so named because we are on the 50th parallel.
61 acres with lovely views. A small winery whose name is becoming more known both locally in restaurants and in Canada. They are building two new massive buildings which is what they need Colin to photograph plus in a few years, for some event photography.
Great wines to taste ( 6 or 7 in all ) and we did buy a bottle of the Pinot Gris. Note all the awards in the background.
The girls had been cooped up in the car and when we let them out they made a direct beeline to the tasting room. Nice concept to have the tastings open to the vineyard.
Suddenly a ground squirrel made its high pitched call and the girls were instantly on the hunt. They climbed that mound in a second.
Apparently there are hundreds of the squirrels living in the vineyard. At one point I was beginning to wonder how we would get them back to the car I just told them that the squirrel was 'right here' and they came running. Phew!!
At this time of year the hills around us are dotted with splashes of yellow.
Lovely wildflowers abound year after year.
After the winery, we drove through the hills to Vernon where we stopped at Papa Murphy’s to order a pizza which I cooked for dinner. The Kelowna franchise closed down this past winter so if we want a Papa Murphy’s, which we like, we have to drive about 50km/31miles round trip. We were already almost halfway there which is why we made the trip. It was fun to drive some backroads that I have never been on. After dinner I had to say that my homemade pizza is much better. It’s just that sometimes it is nice to have someone else do all the preparation.
Yesterday I had some errands to do and it was finally nice enough to take my car for a spin, the first of the season.
I had a blast and the fun continues for the 5C’s 😆

I haven’t seen a winery yet that doesn’t have a bunch of awards. Was it free tastings?
Hola you two….well we have a lot of wineries here in the Okanagan and many of them don’t even have one award. This winery has done very well. The tasting was $5.00 each but we were not charged as it was the client who was pouring. At the end she asked if we wanted to buy any wine and we just looked at each and nodded yes. We will enjoy the Pinot Gris on our patio this summer. Normally we would not pay $19.00 for a bottle but it was very good. Wish we had more pesos to be able to buy better wine more often than not. But on the other hand, sometimes, after a glass or two, the taste gets lost….
Nice to see the girls running & exploring…
Do they go in the convertible sometimes?
Kelly…yes but they have to sit on my knees or Colin’s depending on who is driving. They don’t like the wind in their face. I don’t think I drove my car more than 5 times last year and never with the top down. This year will be different.
George…..you know me well 🙂 Sadly we have 3 days of rain forecast for this long weekend.
Nice to get out again, and did not think you turn down a winery visit.
Enjoy the nice weather.
Wow, I’m afraid I wouldn’t have gotten my three dachsies back that easily. Well, Gretchen doesn’t like to be in trouble so she would come but Harley and Willy would have been into exploring. I don’t let them off leash for that reason.
Colleen, we have trained them since puppies to come back, but they only come back if I tell them a squirrel is there…..often they will respond to “come for a treat” but not always.
