Que pasa

I think that I am wearing out my desk chair which also serves as my computer chair.  I just swivel from one to the other. I’m down to 2 meals a day as I’m so busy in my little corner.

Each one of those pieces of paper had a list of questions for me to discus with Dad's bank. I was on the phone for a very long time but I got the answers I needed.

It seems that I have spent the majority of the past week working on Dad’s things and today I feel that I have a handle on it.  Don’t get me wrong, Dad has done a fabulous job keeping his affairs in order but with him being in hospital I had to complete some transactions for him.  It was more difficult because I wasn’t able to speak to him when I wanted to.  My brother visited and used his cell phone to have Dad call me to check in, but 5 minutes here and there was not enough.  I got done what needed to be done but decided to look into all of his bank accounts.  Good thing, as I found close to $3,500.00 sitting in Mom’s chequing account.  It has been sitting there since last May.  You would think that the bank would have transferred that to Dad after Mom passed away early last July.  I also discovered that despite having a notarized copy of me being Dad’s Power of Attorney, that the bank can make it’s own rules and not let me do things for my Dad.  Not good.

It was a long week but I got through it, plus I had several appointments out of the house.  Finally today I have managed to get  my desk organized and functioning once again.  By the way I managed to stop in at Weight Watchers for a quick weigh in to discover I had lost 1.4 of a lb.  Wish I had had time to stay for the meeting as it would have helped me say no to the pizza Colin brought home for dinner last night  😥

We have had more rain, showers, wind and thunderstorms that normal.  Actually I believe that we might have had only 1 1/2 days of sunshine this week.

The girls are not amused. Because they are so low to the ground they come home from a walk wet with dirty bellies. Plus they just hate the thunder. Yesterday's storm even had me quaking for a while.

Taken on our one perfect day. That was the day Colin left at 4AM and worked until 7PM. He still hasn't gone to Vancouver for those aerials yet. We are hoping for sun and blue sky next week.

Meanwhile we are being eaten alive by mosquitoes.  Doesn’t matter the time of day or where you are, you will get bit as will the dogs.  I complained to the park and they actually had someone come out to the Park to check.  They said it was too late to spray this year but they will next year and for now they have put up two huge mosquito traps.  So far we haven’t noticed a difference.  I am impressed that they actually acted on my request.

Saw our first duck family this season.

They sure are cute. We have seen a second family but that is it. We used to have the lake covered with duck and geese babies.

I almost forgot to mention this, good thing we take photos. We are finally getting the final to dos done since we moved in. We had this crack and one other 3 inch crack repaired. They happened when the house was put in place but we waited until now to see if anymore developed but they didn't. Nice to get these things off the list.

Surprise, just got a call from Dad.  He is going home tonight at 6:00PM.  Funny time to discharge someone from hospital.  It has been a long 5 weeks for him.  I wasn’t aware that he was well enough to go home.  Apparently the heavy duty antibiotics took care of his lung problems and they told him today that there was nothing more they could help him with.  Hopefully he has learned new skills and will be better abbe to manage on his own.  I’m so happy that he will be home for Fathers’s Day.  I know he is going to be happy to be in his own bed tonight.

A quick update on the whale. They claim that it died of natural causes and it has been buried.

They discharged me at 4:00 AM. I asked If I could stay and sleep till morning but they said “No”, they needed the bed. Mind you that was in the ER.

You have to be inventive Contessa. My dad signed his car over to me the day after he died and my mom wrote a cheque to my sister to almost empty her account the day after she died. Illegal? Who knows? It did not hurt anyone and saved days of paperwork.

~ Croft I do remember reading that you were discharged at 4AM and I shook my head. I will have to take your words of wisdom under consideration. Likely it saved months of paperwork.

~ well George those are the repairs being done by the company that built our house but there is still a sizeable to do list for us

~ Connie, I think my desk is a mess but I do know where everything is.

~ Oh Shelagh, how awful you had to go thru that. I agree, banks are the worst. Fortunately this incident is giving me a good heads up as to what is ahead. I am so impressed that you did the probate yourself. Living here in Kelowna vs Edmonton makes it very difficult. I know I will flying back and forth a lot at the time.

  2. Nice to see those final repairs done on your house.
And the whale carcass has now been taken care if too.

Hope your dad makes out ok after being discharged. Looks like you have a good handle on getting things in order and taken care of. Your desk is so neat! You should see mine – yikes! I’d better take a lesson from you. Cute ducky and doggy photos!!!

When my mumsie was hospitalized I arrived with the the power of attorney at her bank. It was twelve years old at that point. They said it was too old they wanted a more current document, I argued with them and went to the upstairs people and kept arguing. They phoned their legal department and they said that a power of attorney never expires and to accept it.

I did the probate of her estate myself, hard work and after completing it and sending money to my brothers I left 400 dollars in the account and just took a break from it all. Finally I asked for the balance of the account to be paid out only to find the service charges had pretty much eaten it all up. I argued that they never gave me a passbook or a monthly statement so I never knew that there were service charges. I won and got the money back. Banks tell you zip.
