Anticipating Antidepressants
If the weather doesn’t pick up soon I may have to resort to antidepressants 🙁 We live in the sunny Okanagan, this is one of the tourist hot spots in Canada. This year the sun is missing. In fact it’s cold more than warm, never mind hot. We had to wear jackets yesterday to walk the dogs.
Having said that we actually did have 2 hours of sun yesterday afternoon with almost enough heat for me to put a sundress on but not quite warm enough to sit outside unless it was a protected area.
The weather is seriously affecting our business. We have many jobs all awaiting sun. When is does shine, I just know the phone will be ringing and the questions will be “when can I get my photos” ? Sadly we can only do so much in a single day. Then there is still that huge aerial shoot to be done in Vancouver and now we have one also here in Kelowna as well as other outdoor work.
This morning we resorted to turning on the fireplace. The furnace has also gone on the last three mornings, it is automatically set to turn on at a certain temperature. It is depressing!
Meanwhile I have managed to fix an ongoing problem related to the computer. I seem to spend more time on it than I should and that has resulted in a sore neck.
About six weeks ago I went to our eye glass place and spoke with the manager. She suggested glasses to use with just the computer. I already have desk/computer glasses but I still tilt my head up with those. They are great for desk work but not so much the computer as they still have a bifocal in them requiring me to tilt my head. These computer only glasses are created for just using the computer. You have to measure the distance you normally sit away from the computer and then a formula is worked out by the eye doctor based on your prescription, I think the term is single vision.

Well, I think I might trade you weather. After having a great early summer of weather here in the ‘tropics’ of southern Indiana (no humidity), last night summer arrived with hot and muggy temps past midnight. Today it is more of the same after the great thunderstorm we had. So summer is here. The weather you describe is what I remember when I lived about 80 miles south of Vancouver on Whidbey Island.
As far as computers, I have spent years on computers at work and then would come home and do more work on the computer. A lot of hours. I will get occasional shoulder/neck soreness but luckily I was told I have perfect vision for computer work and only need my glasses for watching tv and driving. I knew something was wrong when I picked up bifocals a few years ago, when she handed me the glasses and told me to read the 3rd line. I told her that without any glasses I could read the smallest print on the card. She was confused but still accepted payment for the glasses….LOL
I think you can still drink margaritas around an indoor fireplace. Good luck in getting warmer weather.
~ Lucky you with good vision Steve but I certainly would not have paid for those glasses 🙁 We have been to Whidbey, a lovely place.
~Croft, well we have had the clouds and the rain, tired of it already.
~ Connie, I wonder if this is all part of global warming. The weather seems to be affected in many many areas of the world. All I can say is those glasses are great, no more still neck.
It is pretty much constant cloud here in Campbell River. Some sunny mornings mixed in but not that nice. It threatens rain but never rains. I wish it would just come down already!
Contessa, we’re having the same kind of weather at our Delaware cottage. Last week, rain and wind. Yesterday, nice during the day, later had to wear long sleeved sweatshirts/jackets when we went to Paradise Grill for supper. Today, sunny and HOTTER than blazes!
Interesting about wearing different glasses when working on the computer. I’ll have to check that out. You look so professional doing your desk work! Love the pics!!!
Cool here in Alberta as well. Funny thing it is warmer up north! They keep telling us that it is going to be nice and warm starting Wednesday so I sure hope they are right. Good weather for indoor chores.
~ Jannose, you are right, perfect time to work inside. I’m catching up so I can be out when the sun does shine.
~ Nancy….that is a tad too warm. I always feel sorry for the Mexicans having to work in that heat. Looking forward to seeing your changes.
~ Marty…your flip flop comment made me laugh. Maybe you should look into these glasses, at least discuss it with an eye glass place. Your symptoms are the same as mine.
~ Polly, good for you for coming up with a solution. It might work for some but not all as it really depends on being farsighted or nearsighted or having astigmatism like I do. Looking over the top of my glasses is a total blur but it works for my husband.
It’s hotter than Hades here in Maz. The car reported 37 degrees yesterday and the “feels like” was way warmer than that. We’re having some work done at the house and I can’t imagine mixing cement and all that in this heat. One small chore and I’m dripping!
Hope it warms up for you soon.
Chilly and rainy here, too. We’re averaging 20 degrees below normal temperatures. There’s a winter storm warning for tonight and tomorrow, I am ready for some heat! My flip flops think I’ve abandoned them! I’ve been thinking about getting special glasses for the computer at work. After my two days my neck is in knots. After five days off I have the spasms calmed down and turn right around and go to work, back to square one.
I moved the screen back about 6-7 inches and then look through the top of my glasses. Works great!!
I solved my neck problems with lined trifocals. The middle vision for my computer. Last few years at work I was on it 8 hours a day and worked great. The no line glasses were too hard on my neck.
At least you found a solution.
Good for you George. I never heard about lined trifocals.
I have used “cheaters” for years when using the computer. Go to a drugstore or Walmart and buy a pair. No need to pay for a prescription pair. These work fine and cost about $16.
Beautiful view you have there over the water!
Ann M
~ Welcome to the blog Ann. I guess it depends on what ones RX is. Lucky you can get away with those cheaters. Yes we love our view also.
~ Dolores…..I’m about ready to get down on the floor next to the fireplace with the girls 🙂 Guilty, yes we had a great winter so I should not complain.
~ Suzanne, your hired!!! Love you my friend. Just don’t ask me to step in for you, I’m no where near as adventurous as you are.
It got up to 57 here today and snowing on Mt Hood for crap sake!!! Yes, furnace is on and Luci laying by heating pad.. will we ever get summer??? U guys at least had summer all Winter 🙂
I have ALL the same issues….it’s cold and cloudy here in Astoria, I am going to need antidepressants if the sun doesn’t stay out for longer than an hour soon, and I have an astigmatism that requires me to have “computer glasses” in addition to my trifocals. I have always had Doxies in my family, I have a passionate love for Mexico, and I am an RVer who loves Vino Blanco. If you ever need a stand-in, I’m your girl! hahaha!!
Come north to the Cariboo, we are having lovely weather, lots of sun.
Hola Sharon, I don’t think we have ever been up there. Remind me in 3 years when we start to slow down and maybe we can come up.
Thank you! Well, my prescription is getting stronger, but for now, cheaters still work for the computer.
Ann you have no idea how lucky you are being able to use those cheaters.
