Nuestra vida loca
We have had nothing but rain and clouds for days. Today it was different. The forecast has changed.
Vancouver’s weather was similar but with a cloud showing which is not acceptable for aerial photography. Colin took the chance and left here at 4:00AM to drive to Abbotsford ( about 3.5 hours ) where he was meeting the pilot and the helicopter. He was lucky and it was clear enough to do most of his jobs. However the most important were the photos of the three cruise ships leaving between 5:00 and 5:30PM all heading North to Alaska. The most impressive of them all was the Disney Wonder scheduled to sail at 5:00PM. As of 6:30PM it still had not sailed. Lighting and timing is critical. As is the helicopter fee of $500.00 per hour. So far no go as I just received this photo from the pilot’s iPhone.
So poor Colin, it is now 7:15PM Monday and he still has 2 more aerials to do. Due to lighting he may now have to reschedule to Tuesday morning ( no Canada Day for him ). He actually has another job to shoot tomorrow as well. Meanwhile Gramma Katie is waiting for him to how up in about 30 minutes. That is not going to happen. Sadly if Colin is flying tomorrow that means he will not be driving to Katie & Louie’s to spend the night with them. That would mean just over a 60 minute drive tonight and them back again in the morning. If he has to stay in Abbotsford where the helicopter is based he will find a hotel for the night. Yes that is our crazy life. That is just a small aspect of today. Meanwhile I am coordinating jobs for Thursday and Friday as well as trying to book a plane for three hours of aerial photography here in Kelowna. I would say that 90% of our work is weather based and this is the first time since April that things are looking close to perfect. Definitely a crazy life. Now do you understand why we so enjoy Mexico and specifically the Isla for 5 months of the year?
This post has been delayed due to more of our vida loca. Colin was still waiting on the ship to sail, I told him I would find something out and I did. You have to know me to understand that I can get information out of anyone. The ship is waiting on supplies and won’t sail until 9:00PM tonight. Back to the drawing board. That means that Colin may have to stay and take photos Wednesday at 5:00PM which of course will affect everything I organized today for Thursday and possibly Friday. Oh the wonderful life of a photographer.
TIme for me to say adios at 8:15PM as it is truly time for some Pinot Grigio. I will be working late tonight. Better get some food while I can. Of course the girls were fed hours ago.
Sorry Gramma Katie, I still don’t know what Colin is doing tonight.

Busy busy, and hope the weather keeps on being great for you.
Waiting on weather is no fun, no matter what the job. Mixing aircraft with unstable weather adds a whole new dimension.
BTW, did you know the spell check on your comments section is not working? It highlights the misspelled word but offers no correction. Mot a big deal but maybe something that just has to be turned on.
Rather off-topic, but were you able to find Caeli’s escape route?
Happy Canada Day – still time to enjoy!
