Isla de la Piedra/Stone Island devastation update and photos

I had to join Facebook, which I said I never would, but it was the only way I could get an update and photos.  The locals are amazing, they are already rebuilding.  Below, after the photos I have a report from a friend on the scene.

The roots of so many cocos have been exposed.

The clean up begins.

They are so resilient and such hard workers.

Report from a fellow RVer on the scene.

The storms have hit with a vengeance….We were at the Molokay, sp, for dinner Sunday and they were in the process of removing their wood deck but didn’t quite make it.  We had high tides, high waves and strong winds.  Rudy’s area was wiped out, water came over Carmelita’s wall into the restaurant and so on around the beach….The road between Rudy’s and Carmelita’s, three quarters of the way up, is clogged with logs and ocean debris. We had lunch at Carmelita’s Tues. and I couldn’t believe the devastation.  But the clean up and rebuild has started.  We moved into the Casa Aug. 15th….already had a bed frame made so moved our mattress from the trailer.  We moved the trailer to the 3rd row Fri. the 22….

Park 2….Water came over the wall….where our trailer would have been the water came over the wall and to the front of the trailer.   Donna, Peggy’s area… water over to the middle of the road.

All in Park 1 is just fine and so are the RV’s.

David has started to rebuild the palapa and palapa’s for the buses.

Thanks to all for the Facebook photos and for the on the scene report.   I know that eventually I will get more details but for certain my garden is toast.  I can’t see anything much surviving all that salt water.  I’m certain that our palapa has taken a hit.  Once I get more info I will let you all know.

By the way, today is the day that we are supposed to be advised by the medical folks what Dad’s future will hold.  Based on the decision I likely will be leaving here shortly.

Oh my goodness, I’m just getting caught up on reading my blogs and could not believe the devastation to Stone Island. We’ve spent so much time in and around Mazatlan and loved our day trips there. Good luck to your friends!

Do you know how your new palapa survived?

That devastation looks awful.. am so lucky where I live, that we barely get anything on that order, fires in the forest, but hardly ever right near where I am. Makes a person complacent to the happenings and hardships out there in ‘the world’
Hope things are ok with your Dad, it is a very hard time to go thru, thinking of you and wish you well going… travel safe
