Adios dear house, for a while anyway

I am flying to Edmonton today and should arrive about 3:30PM.  My sister is picking me up at the airport and we will go straight to the hospital.  Dad has been a bit testy with me lately.  I think he misses having me there to do all of his bidding and most especially to deal with certain financial issues.  Talking on the phone is difficult for him with his hearing problem and he is generally frustrated with not being able to control everything.  I just found out a few days ago that he is not eligible for DATS ( Disabled Adult Transit Service ), as he does not meet the requirements.  We really want to take him in to get his hearing aid repaired.  By the way Costco is the only place that will not come to a hospital for repairs so think carefully about where you are going to buy your hearing aid from.  The only way would be by wheelchair in a special taxi van but Dad refuses to spend the money.  So that leaves me and my sister (hopefully she will be able to help as I think it will be a huge task ) to get him, an oxygen tank and a wheelchair into Dad’s van.  He is weak and can’t lift his legs and I am not sure how he will hoist himself up onto the seat, never mind trying to get him dressed and dealing with a urinal due to the diuretics.  I do hope it works out as he has not been outside since the end of July.  This is just one small thing I will dealing with but I do love challenges.

I am sure going to miss Colin, the girls and my house.  It is even more difficult to leave this time than it was the end of August but at least I won’t be gone so long this time.  Needless to say I am concerned about the girls having to go through wondering when I will be back all over again.  Colin still had a lot of work to do but not as intense as it was in September and he should have more time for the girls.  I have my closed toe shoes packed and mitts and ear muffs and a wool scarf so I am ready for anything.

This home plus 3 others that Colin recently photographed are in the Fall/Winter edition of the Okanagan Home magazine which can be picked up here in BC for free at various drop boxes and stores.

The Edmonton river valley taken yesterday and sent to me by brother. It is a beautiful city but I don't see this on a daily basis as my route to and from the hospital is along the Yellowhead Trail, a freeway of sorts.

Guess where the next post will be from 🙁

My apologies to those I have not yet returned emails, I promise to get back to you as soon as I can.  Special bon voyage wishes to Sue & Gerry  from Penticton, BC, who are heading to the Isla ( Mazatlan, Mexico ) for the first time ever.  So happy I was able to inspire you to go and help the wee bit that I did, I just didn’t have time to meet you in person.  I hope to rectify that soon.  Safe travels.

I do not think it is a good idea to try to get your Dad in and out of a car…..The last thing you need is to hurt yourself (or sister). I am a retired rehab nurse and I can’t tell you how many people I know that have injured themselves. Your Dad saved a ton of money buying at Costco…he can use a bit of it to get himself there and back. Let professionals handle all the “stuff” and you accompany him!! Will make a much easier day for all involved!!

Your dad is one lucky man to have a daughter like you. I know he’ll be happy to see you once you’re there. Colin does such a fantastic job of photography. Beautiful photos. Have fun while you’re there with your dad. Special moments.
