50% of our time on the Isla has passed

Have we really been here almost two months?  There is so much optimism when you first get here as the months ahead seem to stretch out giving you the illusion that you have oodles of time.  Sadly departure day of April 1st is fast approaching.  Where did January go?  We are enjoying our time but there seems less of it this year, well at least for me it seems so.  I  feel like I am on the computer all day and yet I have so little time to do what I want to do, like post a blog.  Carmeh & Caeli have taken more of our time because of their back issues and my time has been taken by family members. Caeli is doing much better and today we let her do a bit of a walk on the beach.  At least I am here and not in freezing Edmonton @ -23C  with the wind chill while here we are enjoying temperatures around 29C on a daily basis which today with the humidity feels like 32C  😎  Speaking of the weather….

...this boat came into our bay last weekend seeking shelter and dropped anchor right out front. Those dark clouds dropped a huge amount of rain from midafternoon till the next morning. It took us two days to dry out. Our roof has a leak. We won't do anything about it till next November just in case a hurricane blows the entire palapa away. We haven't done anything to it since it was built 4 years ago so we are due for repair work. That amount of driving rain at this time of year is most unusual but we dried out, it's only water.

These pelicans were hoping to catch some fish around the net.

Another shot showing how far over the sun is setting. When it reaches the right of El Faro it will be time for us to leave the Isla.

Rather than leaving the net in all night as he had done the previous day he pulled it out at sunset. You can see some of the fish he caught in his net.

It was one of our first nice sunsets in a week.

I went into town on my own yesterday just to get away from the phone and to wander around.  It was fun exploring several of the stores surrounding the mercardo, the mercardo itself and a large department store across from the Cathedral, Fabricas de Francia.  Lots of lovely very expensive clothes that I would love to have but can’t afford.  Still it was nice to browse and I found a salad spinner to replace ours that had packed it in.  It was marked down to 279 pesos from 399 and then I was given a further 20% off to a final 223.20 pesos.  However I hard a card in my wallet that I was given last year when I bought a tote bag there and I had no idea what it was all about but handed it to the cashier thinking I would be collecting points.  Instead it gave me another 99.80 pesos off, surprise!  So in the end I paid a grand total of 123.40 pesos ( $10.40 CAD ) for a salad spinner that was originally priced at $33.67 CAD.  Now that was a deal for the only one on the shelf.  I had a wonderful shrimp burrito stuffed with lettuce and avocado and cheese.  It was advertised as a quesadilla but served like a burrito, great deal at 27 pesos/$2.25CAD and very filling.  I ended up carrying three full bags around with me so no photos.

For the first time ever I went into town, came back to the Isla and then went back into town last evening.  It was Art Walk, the first Friday of the month, an art event where many artists open their homes and studios to the public.  Click here to see photos and my write up about Art Walk from last January.  Colin and I strolled around, saw some friends and looked for somewhere to have dinner on the Plazuela Machado.

Who did we run into but Hannelore and Peter? We haven't seen them since last March and they were not planning on returning to Mazatlan this winter but there they were, having just flown in a few days ago. A lovely surprise. Forgot to mention to you Peter, I really like your shirt.

This photo was taken January 18, 2014. Wow, do I ever look different! Hannelore and Peter you look wonderful year after year.

My post on January 18, 2014 was entitled Enchanted Evening.  It was one of my most favorite evenings ever.  Read about it here.

This is the Carnavale monigote, Luz de Luna, that overlooks the Plazuela Machado.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone.  We certainly enjoyed last night, great to get out and do something different.

  1. Just amazing how the winter slides by when you are in a nice warm climate, enjoy the rest.

That must be it George….the warmth lures us to believe that it will last forever. I believe that life should be lived to the fullest each day but as you know and are dealing with yourselves right now, things happen to change that.

You still have tons of time left before heading north. It’s good to get out by yourself once in awhile and do your own thing. BTW, I love your black outfit, you look fantastic! Big hugs, we sure miss you guys.

You made me blush Chris! For once even Colin liked me in black. Yes I know we still have time but the first 10 days of March Colin will be in Culiacan at the guitar festival and then we will start packing up. However February holds the promise of some fun times. Stay tuned. We miss you both mucho mucho mas.

Oh Connie….you are so sweet. The only bad thing is that Colin doesn’t like me in black but I did look good :)) Sorry I am proud of that photo.

    Hi, you two,
Our meeting could not have happier if we had planned it . Thanks for the following blog with our picture. Colin did a good job.
It seems we are so caught up with renewing friendships the days just fly by.
Hopefully next week will be less busy.
Today we went down to ocean to see sunset for the first time since we are here. It was a glorious one.
How I always enjoy when you post them.
Hope your day’s are a little less hectic.
    Take care,
    Hannelore.
