It is Carnivale in Mazatlan

The only activity we had planned to participate in this year were the fireworks.  There was a possibility of a meal at the Plazuela Machado but not this year.  Due do the rain the Friday night festivities on Olas Altas were hampered.  I feel so badly for all those vendors whose products got wet.  I’m sure that most eventually dried out but it certainly put a damper on sales.  With the odd rain shower Saturday morning we were somewhat concerned about the firework show but we headed out anyway.

As did many others.

As did many others.

These folks rented a room overlooking the ocean and the activities. Great idea except I think you have to book for a minimum of three nights.

Everyone was getting into the mood to party.

Some more than others. Talk about a large size cerveza!

We watche the festivites from high up on top of the Freeman Htoel

We watched the festivites from high up on top of the Freeman Hotel, a perfect place to see the firework display.

Just before the show started a few raindrops began to fall.

They managed to hold off till then very end and they we got wet getting home.

We simply just enjoyed the fireworks raining down all around us.

I shed several tears looking upwards to the heavens thinking of my parents

I shed several tears looking upwards to the heavens thinking of my parents.  It was just that kind of evening.  So much beauty showering down from above.

I have to share this blog comment with you.  It touched me.

Barbara sent that to me yesterday morning having read my last post about the weather.  As I mentioned it rained as we came home Saturday night, enough to make us a tad more than damp.  I cried for my parents during the fireworks then got rained on, perhaps a blessing from above.  Who knows?

What I do know is that sun came out late morning yesterday.  It was brilliant, the ocean and sky were blue and it was a perfect day.

...and a wonderful sunset.

…and a wonderful sunset.

  1. Glad that the weather held out for the fireworks show.

I remember when Lindsey got married, just a month after my mother died and it was a dull overcast day but when the wedding happened in my Dad’s backyard the sun came out just in time for the wedding and after it was over it started to rain. It made me feel like my mother was looking down over the wedding and watching the whole thing. I was such a special feeling! Keep that feeling with you!

As the days go by you will become more and more at ease with this new experience. I had this loss a long time ago, and it took me several years to come to grips with it. Both my parents died young. There is a kind of release eventually when you come to realize that from now on the decisions you make are solely yours. No older wiser person to turn to. You are now the elder. You will always remember your parents in the best light, that’s natural. Enjoy the freedom of being completely free of the responsibility of the need to care for your elders. It may sound a tad selfish, but it is real…

    Your best years are ahead.

    Respect to you and yorus.

    Peter.

  3. The fireworks show I think was a perfect ending of your day and such a wonderful display.

Ruth……I believe that your Mom was there in her own way. Very special indeed.

Peter…..thank you for the advice. I understand what you are saying. Now to just get thru the executrix part.

George…yes the fireworks were not only a great ending to the day but it seemed like a final adios to both my parents.

Carnival is really huge in Mazatlan! The picture of the malecon is incredible. Glad you´re out and about. Wish we were there on the rooftop having a drink!

Great fireworks shots Contessa – I know how hard those are to take. Mazatlan has some of the best sunsets!

Hola Chris, we thought about how much you both would have loved to be there. Maybe next year.

Teresa, Mazatlan has so much that is wonderful. We are lucky to be here.
