Splendid Sunday

Way back in early January we had purchased tickets for the symphony on Sunday afternoon.  There are a number of them to chose from over a 2 – 3 month period.  I chose yesterday based on the choral group.  I love to listen to choirs and any form of vocal music.  Yesterday it was poems written by Robert Frost and Shakespeare put to music by Randall Thompson and Vaughn Williams.  Simply brilliant.

Director Artistico Gordon Campbell put the program together. Before each song he read the words aloud.

Who would not love to listen to ‘The road not taken’ or ‘ Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ by Robert Frost put to music.  I had no idea that these and many other poems had been put to music.  Delightful.

I have to be honest here....it was wonderful but the chorus failed to deliver.

I have to be honest here….it was wonderful but the chorus failed to deliver.  A few missed bars and some off notes and so on but overall a wonderful performance.

The last three songs of which the final two were the encores redeemed the group in my opinion.  I particularly loved the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel which I have heard this group preform before.  Sadly the only instrument at this symphonic performance was the piano played by a very very good pianist.  There was a guest violinist for the Serenade to Music written by Shakespeare which was excellent.  Overall it was a lovely musical interlude on a Sunday afternoon.

Colin and I walked over to Olas Atlas and settled at El Fish for our main meal of the day.  We both chose the shrimp fettucini which was excellent.  At the next table were another couple who had also attended the symphony.  Easy to deduce as they had the program on the table between them.  We were surprised when that couple left and came over to our table.

They stopped to thank me for posting my blog!!! It was Jenny and Brad, long time readers of my blog from Minnesota.  Apparently I keep them warm during the winter with my photos.  What a surprise.  They did not stop more than a few moments other than to say hola.  Thanks for recognizing us. They are only in town for a few weeks.  Jenny & Brad be sure to say hello next Sunday, I will be there but not Colin….or drop by at Tippy Toes tomorrow, Tuesday, between 2 and 4 PM, maybe we can meet for a drink after 4PM.  You were such a breath of fresh air, thanks for stopping to say hello.  I meant it when I said that you made my day.

Shortly after they left we saw two fellows crossing the street.

The baby slept through the entire crossing despite the waves and loud talk around her.

A typical quiet Sunday afternoon on the main drag on the Isla.

Yesterday it was moved to the parking lot of the Union Bar by request of the powers that be.  We have not seen anyone here at this RV  but apparently it is a couple with two  young teenage children.  Kevin & Ruth, looks like there is another boondocking site here on the Isla for you.  However I think the one you found is much better.

  1. The Choral event looks like a lot of fun.
As far as the young guys pants go, I guess we can blame Canada and Justin Bieber for that look.

    I guess you are right Sylvia and Rod but really not a great testament to Canada. I think you both would have enjoyed the afternoon with the choral group;

  3. Always nice to run into blog followers, in your travels.

There are no children on that bus, they are 3 adults only.

Interesting Maria as I have friends who go past several times a day and there are young teens there. Maybe they are just visiting. Thanks for the update.

It is nice to run into them or rather in this case George, come up to us totally out of the blue.

I think it is more like, “I borrowed my sisters jeans”.

    Good one Croft 🙂

I see that “attire” a lot in the Vancouver area. I would call it “urban thug”.

I guess we don’t get out much anymore Peter. This fellow seemed so proud of himself bopping down the malecon.

Surely those pants are not comfortable to wear or to try and sit while wearing! My guess is they stay up because they are too tight to slid down any further. Always enjoy your photos.

    Thanks Sandy :))
