Home 2 weeks & trying to keep it together
Instead of slowing down we are speeding up. Colin is the only one not being pulled into the vortex of problems.
Caeli is not too happy at having to wear underpants.
Suddenly Carmeh needs to be pushed rather than walked.
We had an unexpected visit to the vet at the end of the day Wednesday. Both Colin and I noticed that Carmeh was stumbling and not too steady so we went to see Dr. Susan. She discovered a large hot spot on her spine as well as an enlarged lymph node on her neck. Susan was concerned about the back and kept pressing along the spine to get a reaction from Carmeh. No reaction at that time. However once home we noticed that Carmeh was even more unsteady and we think that the prodding might have aggravated the situation. So Thursday morning I started her on a double dose of Metacam and we are keeping her confined for a few days. Of course once the drug kicks in she wants to run 🙁 While doing their anal glands it was observed that Caeli had a problem in that area and a special creme needs to be applied twice per day and she is not allowed to scoot which she does a lot, so she needs panties.
I feel like I am back nursing with all these meds to dispense at various times throughout the day. Caeli is still getting gel in her ears that stemmed from her ear infection we discovered in Yuma. She is also starting on steroid eye drops to see if that will stop her eyes from weeping.
Then it was my turn.
Colin knew he had torqued his body and needed to see a chiropractor. None of the ones we have seen over the years have been able to help us. After some internet research he found Dr. Cheryl. He saw her a week ago and had a significantly positive reaction. So he arranged for both of us to see her today. She found Colin doing very well and did another adjustment. I have been having problems for years and years and no one has been able to help me. My massage therapist in Mazatlan ( who works in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada ) told me this last winter that I need to get my neck fixed or I would have major problems in the future. She could not do anything for me in that area.
So after Colin had such a great response with Dr. Cheryl, I decided to go see her. She is fantastic and found that I was ‘out’ in at least a dozen areas as well as 2 ribs were out. I have never seen some of the diagnostic techniques she used but immediately after an adjustment I could see the difference. It was amazing and she knew how my body would respond. Last May, after ten treatments, another local chiropractor said my problems could not be fixed. She has proven this wrong. She does many types of adjustments and in the photo she is using an adjustor to stimulate the correction.
How do I know she helped? I, as well as Colin were both sore for a few hours after our treatments. Not uncomfortable but enough to know that things were shifting. I will see her again next week. I also still have two more vein treatments next week.
We have had extremely high winds these past three days ( white caps on the lake ) and our rain chain snapped under the pressure.
It sort of seems that everyone and everything ( not really ) are falling apart. Actually that is just what happens in our life and we take it in stride. Our lives are certainly not dull, never have been and I suspect never will be. But we love what we are living. I haven’t even had time yet to bring you up to speed on the rest of it. Don’t worry, I plan to fill you in. Just to show that not all is falling apart…..
I got my hair done today. Now that feels good.

Hope the medication helps with your cute dog….it’s hard when they get older and have several complaints – your hair looks great…
Love my hair also. As the girls get older there will likely be constant trips to the vet to keep them comfortable.

I would be VERY leery of double dosing Metacam-especially on an older dog. Like any NSAID, it can be hard on the GI tract and the kidneys. Ask your vet about adding on Tramadol for further pain relief.
Gail I would only do it under our vet’s orders. She always has us give a 10ml dose qd the first time to decrease the pain and inflammation and then it drops to 5ml qd/daily for as as needed. I appreciate you input as always and will bear that in mind.
