Introducing the latest member of the 5C’s
We had been the 4C’s for a long time ( Colin, Contessa, Carmeh and Caeli and before them, Cloii & Channel ) and then became the 5C’s when we got our parrott ( Cheikka ) whom we no longer have. But by then I had started the blog and as you all know, called it the 5C’s Que Pasa so we remained the 5C’s. So today I want to introduce you to Baby C.
We always take my iMac desktop when we travel but sometimes it is important to have a laptop. I know I sure could have used one with all the traveling last fall to Edmonton to see my Dad. We do have a laptop but it is very old and very heavy. It is a 2006 15″ MacBook Pro which is considered ancient now. So we picked up the 13″ MacBook Air last week. We are running an older program, Mountain Lion OS X 10.6.8 on both of our desktops which works for us for all the right reasons but mainly for Colin’s many photo programs that will not be compatible with the current Yosemite program.
I don’t like change of this sort and it was a huge decision to go ahead or not. I had recently read on Steve’s blog about some problems he was having with his upgrade to Yosemite. So I emailed him and we went back and forth quite a bit. I also emailed Rae who gave me advice on MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro and assured me I could live with a 13″ screen.
We were walking one morning after my vein treatment at the mall. You have to walk for 30 minutes right after the treatment and it was too cold & windy to walk outside so we decided to do some mall walking. We rounded a corner and there was an Apple store. Of course we went in and checked things out. Right off the bat I did not like the Yosemite program, too many changes. After some back and forth with Steve and reading some online reviews we decided to get one. The one thing I did not do was have the new Photos installed in the MBA, I chose to remain with iPhotos which I am familiar with and use to edit my photos for my blog. The new Photos has more problems than I want to deal with. So we brought Baby C home on April 30th.
It will take some getting used to the changes in Yosemite but I can see myself working with it. We certainly won’t be upgrading our desktops until we have to. I purchased the hard shell cover ( shown in the top photo ) online to protect the MBA and it came with a protective green silicone keyboard cover which I have decided not to use to type with. It slows my fingers down. Besides the keyboard is black so it won’t show the dirt unlike the white keyboard on my iMac. I really need to clean those keys, the dust and dirt flying around the Isla have made it grungy looking. As this protective silicone cover fits that keyboard I will use it to protect the keys when I’m not typing. Best go clean that up now….

That looks like a really nice computer. Also a great view as you work. I noticed the different “docks” between your iMac and you MBA … if you want that 3D dock on your laptop as you have on your iMac, download a free program called cDock and you can have the exact same 3D dock at the bottom on your MBA.
Thanks Steve. Yes the docks are different with a new set of icons for Yosemite. I’ll play with it before I change anything. One thing I do need to change is the brightness of the MBA screen it’s too dull.
You look comfortable!
I was.
Looks wonderful, my 2009 Mac book pro 13 inch is perfect for me, I am sure you will like it.
That’s good to know. Thanks George. Which OS program are you running.
I am operating 10.9.5 on my Mac Book Pro right now and works wonderful. No issues.
Don;t know what animal is is called but thats the number.
That is the latest Maverick update I believe. Hang off on updating to Yosemite till they get the kinks worked out.
