Mad House
The sun is out but only for 3 days before the clouds return and the rain showers. So Colin is gone at 6AM until 10PM for the next 3 days. He is moving at warp speed trying to get close to 2 weeks worth of photography done. Meanwhile I sit here like a person in the control tower at an airport. Go there and then over there. The phone keeps ringing. Yes I will try and fit you in, can we start at 8AM? To the next one, we will start at 4PM and go till midnight and so and so on. A job scheduled for next week had been moved to October 15th ( good thing we delayed our departure ). Another has been postponed to May ( yeah !! ). Of course there are a multitude of things that crop up that require a great deal of my time to sort out. That’s my job but really why didn’t you tell me that before I spent an hour organizing that for you 🙄
I did finally get the courier I was expecting from the estate lawyer, after it took an unexpected trip around B.C. It made me feel better by about 20% and upped my blood pressure by about 50%. Not all I asked for was included nor all that I expected. Oh well, I shall just send her an email stating that I will be out of the country from Oct. 20th to April 18th ( I always tell people I am leaving ten days before I actually am, just in case ). I also tell the clients that I need to be paid at least ten days before we leave.
Maybe that explains why I can’t lose those 3 miserable pounds I gained over our anniversary and Colin’s birthday. I’ve been back on a very strict Weight Watcher program for three weeks now and nothing has happened. Heck I’m even counting every sip of wine, well almost, 😳 I did treat myself to a FitBit Zip a few weeks ago. Much better that the pedometer I have been using which added a step just for a small body movement. The FitBit Zip only records steps so it is taking much more effort to get to those 10,000 daily steps. Today was the first time I actually made the 10,000. I love it because it is so tiny and costs less than $60.00CAD.
However now that I have done some research I think that for another $40.00 I would have purchased the FitBit One ( it is also very small ) but it also records your sleep activity. I can’t remember the last time I slept through the night. I toss and turn and two hours of sleep is considered a good night for me. Maybe I am losing weight while I sleep, I wish. Actually it would just be interesting to see how much rest I get versus all the movement. I do sleep much better in Mexico, I am starting to look forward to that.
Two nights ago we were up for a long while at about 4AM dealing with Carmeh who was throwing up all over the place. Funny how it is always the bed or a carpet and never the hardwood floor. She even upchucked on one of the ramps! She was better yesterday and perfect today. Just one of those things. Then of course it was Caeli’s turn, she has an ear infection. Eww, what a smell, that’s how I discovered it, during a snuggle. Already within 24 hours it is better, good thing I have a dog pharmacy in my house.
It’s almost 8PM and I have had to reply to three clients since I started this post. We do work around the clock at this time of the year. By the way I did get a cheque in the mail today from Checkout 51 for $21.75 and I only bought things I really needed. I already have $6.00 towards my next cheque.
This is just a quickie post tonight but I do feel more energy the last day or so. I plan to add more of my own photos as well. Bear with me. Time for a well earned dinner and a glass of you know what 😛

Just be aware the biggest problem with fitbits is that people lose them easily – a friend bought one last week and already lost it (the more expensive model). I cashed out for the first time from Checkout 51 and if used properly way better than coupons. I have seen that shower shampoo funny but it is funny even the second time round 🙂
I have read about others losing their Fit Bit devises but I think that those are mostly the ones on the wrist. Mine has such a strong/tight clip that I can barely put in on my waistband. This one can even be used in a pocket.
When you get to Mexico everything will alright. It’s very stressful for you right now. Thinking of you as you prepare for your get away. We have gone to AZ. two years and TX one year. Won’t be going south this year as my Mom is having health problems-know you have been through that period in your life, too. You have been through a lot of stress and you are stronger for it. Take care of yourself healthwise so you’re not to worn out for the BEACH!!!!! Sharon
I am trying to take care of myself health wise but have to do what I have to do. Sorry to hear that you will be staying home this winter but it is the right thing to do and you won’t regret it. Hopefully you can create some extra special moments at home to give yourself a lift every now and then. I’ll be sure to take you on a beach walk now and then even if only in my mind.
Hopefully the weather will co-operate now and Colin can get caught up on all his jobs.
Colin is only going to put a small dent into the jobs he has waiting. The problem is that most clients want to wait till August for their photography and this year we were smoked out and now we have another 10 days of showers and clouds on the horizon. Sadly we have company coming from Alberta for 2 days and Colin will likely miss them as he HAS to work.
Thanks for the update!
Your weight very likely isn’t budging because you’re not sleeping. If you sleep better in MX and are less stressed, you might be surprised by how fast the weight comes off. I didn’t start to lose weight and keep it off until i was getting at least a solid six hours a night.
The prices on the FitBits have really gone down! I might want to get myself one. If you decide you want the other model that has more features, I’d buy the basic one from you…
I have never heard that before Rae about sleep and weight loss. Interesting. I will have to research that. As to my FitBit, I will think about that and get back to you. I know you like the colour 🙂
There are tons of links between weight loss and sleep. Something to do with hormone levels. It’s also a lot harder to resist bad foods when you’re sleep deprived.
As for the FitBit, I’d still be interested if it was camo-coloured. 😉
After reading Shelagh’s comment I don’t think I will be changing my FitBit Zip. If you check the link I sent to Ruth you can buy one for yourself for $60.00CAD.
i have the fitbit flex, bought it just four months ago. I love it, lost 15 lbs so far. I love the active minute tracker. i shoot for at least 60 active minutes. I was tracking food but got fed up doing it. Sleep I did track for awhile but stopped that too. I do steps and active minutes, it also tells you how many calories you burned. Very complex little gadget.
Now I would propably buy one that tracks heart rate and stairs, but no biggie for not having those features. i just love mine so much.
Rae is correct in saying people easily loose them, I have the metal clasp push to close style and it was very hard to close but I have my system and no longer struggle. Also from amazon I bought these little plastic o rings that slide onto the band and i can use them to secure the clasp. Ten bucks and they are great. I also found ten clones bands so I have ever colour in the rainbow and my fitbit looks like jewelry!
Hey I am a girl!!
Peter walks with me and he has lost 17 pounds. With the osteo in my knees giving me grief I find that 5k in the AM and 2.5k in the late afternoon works well. When I upped it to 10k in a single walk I got hurt.
Slow and steady wins the race.
I still drink wine too!
Cheers.
Great comment Shelagh. You both have lots tons of weight, well done. Love all your info on the FitBit. I am amazed that you do a full 5k at a go. I would never have time for that. 2500 is my max walking the girls and that is SLOW. But I do a lot of waling in the house to and fro so that helps. I am so looking forward to using it on the beach on the Isla and see what I can come up with in steps. Based on what you say I think I will just stick with what I have as all I care for is the number of steps. What is neat is that the FitBit jives with the Weight Watcher E Tools and I get my extra points for activity or as I call them wine points 🙂
I checked out Checkout 51! New to me, what a novel idea. I am going to download the App.
Hang in there, sending good karma your way.
I never thought to mention what Checkout 51 is. Don’t know why I thought that everyone should know about it. It did take me close to a year to get my first cheque but like I said, I only use it for what I was going to buy anyway.
Thanks for the good karma. Sure am going to miss seeing you all in Mexico this winter.
Hi…where did you get your fit-bit at such a good price? And what is Checkout 51? Is it a BC thing? Never heard of it……good info!!
Hola Ruth, nice to see you here again in the comment section. Love all your emails also. Here it the link to where I got my FitBit Zip
https://www.fitbit.com/cart?productId=111
This includes a choice of color, the clip and the connector to your computer and free shipping. All you need to count each step you take in a very accurate fashion.
As to Checkout 51, it is a sort of online coupon redemption. It is all across Canada. They send you out a list of what you can redeem for each week and you have 7 days to purchase what you like and send your receipt in. Depending on what you buy it may take time. It took me a year but free money is free money. Here is the link.

Here is an example of this week’s offers.

Just think, you save enough thru Checkout 51 to buy your FitBit 🙂
Thank you Contessa for the info…on my way now to check them both out.
You are most welcome Ruth.
I’m glad to have the info about the FitBits. Thank you. I’m thinking about the one with the information re sleep – but wonder where one puts it if you sleep naked? lol
Barbara, that’s why I’ve decided to keep my Zip! Where ever would I attach the other one 🙂 🙂
We have also looked at the FitBits and I would definitely like to have one, maybe one day. I didn’t realize that they did quite as much as they do, which sounds pretty cool.
Yep, we have already gotten our first Checkout 51 cheque as well. Doesn’t look like we will get our next one until next year when we return back to Canada. Lately, they haven’t had a single thing that we have needed or wanted. 🙁
