It was a cold night and we did alright although I have to say having frost on the inside of the windows was a first. We were happy that we brought both slides in, but realized this morning, that we had forgotten to bring up the jacks but they did not freeze.
Facing the front of the RV. Two ramps shown here.
With the living room slide in we are tight There are 2 hounds under the blankets on the sofa.
Colin getting ready to deal with the cold on one of his many trips outside last night. I think this was when he was off to place a heater in the sewer area.
Just to show you that we do eat in all meals and have lots of dishes at the end of each day.
The bedroom slide comes right up to the end of the bed. We were truly snuggled in last night.
Frost on the inside of the head of the bed window. Colin wrote my name on the window while lying in bed. We did get to 7F with the windchill which is -14C.
After doing her business at 6:45AM. Carmeh was shivering more than imaginable.
It took a while to defrost the windshield before we left in the morning but the view was worth it.
About 40 minutes south of Ely, in Lund, we had to stop so this goat could cross the road. He simply took his time and was very majestic about it all.
Sometime before Vegas, maybe 60 -80 minutes, one drives thru this very scenic area. Perhaps 1-2 miles of interesting rock formations.
Utah, with all its beauty and spectacular rock formations are mere miles to the East. I like to think of this section of road in Nevada as the gentle end of those outstanding formations.
Today I thought of my dear friend Suzanne who was just a few hours East of us, enjoying the outstanding nature of Zion National Park. Sadly our schedules did not mesh. See you in the spring mi amiga. Wish it could have been……
Finally we got to Las Vegas. Amazing how a few hours can bring so much warmth. I was happy to shed a few layers of fleece and lighten up the clothing. The girls relished the heat. To us, this town means stocking up for the winter. This is the only place we get to shop as a Trader Joe’s. I never leave there without leaving at least $1000.00 behind 😛
Of course you know what the majority of that was spent on. I have no idea how our RV seems to absorb so many boxes. It’s a miracle.
We are now settled in at Camping World which no longer allows overnight camping. Well this is our third year of illegal overnigthing and we have yet to be evicted.
It has been yet another long day and the only thing we know is that it will be warmer yet tomorrow 😎
We drive 276 miles today and tomorrow will be even shorter.
We are looking forward to a much more relaxed day tomorrow. Stay tuned for some new adventures.
I thought of you today as well, and wished I could have flown over the mountains for a quick visit! We saw snow on the hiking trail today…quite a switch from last year in tee shirts, but still beautiful. I am so glad you are finally further south in warmer temps! WHEW! Frost on the inside?? That was one cold night. So glad it is behind you! It won’t be long now till those beautiful, balmy sunsets!
Hey Contessa:
One suggestion that may be helpful. I just had a heat strip installed in one of our air conditioning units. It provides over 5,000 BTU’s of heat, maybe a bit more than a portable heater and it works well. Last night it went down to 0C here in Indiana and the strip kept the RV at 16C overnight, it helps that our A/C unit has ducts in the ceiling so the heat is distributed throughout the RV. The strip came with a new thermostat, it combines the functions so that if the temp difference between the set point and ambient temp is greater than about 5 degrees then the propane furnace comes on, you get heat from both the strip and the furnace. It has eliminated the need for a portable heater. It set me back about $500 (parts plus labour).
Al.
What a great adventure on your trip south. RV’er must be flexiable to make it all work and you and Colin are certainly that. Wish you continued traveling mercies on your trip. Cannot wait to get on the road, too.
Your blog is very interesting and one I try not to miss. Thank you. I have never seen the inside of a door that matches the painting on the outside of your motorhome so when it is open it blends right in. Wow, that is pretty cool.
We have never had frost on the inside of our windows, you have dual pane windows?
We be heading further south monday at least sunshine here today.
It’s amazing what a change in altitude can make, isn’t it?
I’m also curious as to where all that wine goes. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, I guess. 😀
That picture of Carmeh all swaddled in the blankie is priceless!
Which Trader Joe wines do you buy? What are your favourite other things you buy at Trader Joe’s? I love those stores! 8 more days….
Had to laugh at the pups under the blankets and so, so cold… Amazing how many boxes you manage to get in that RV!!!
