I had no idea that today was going to be so much fun. First off as usual was our beach walk once the girls ate their breakfast. We only get to eat after they do and get a long walk. Guess who rules the house? Today was hair day in Mazatlan.
It also was a first time in a very very long time that four cruise ships were docked in port.
All of Mazatlan was holding its breathe that these 13,854 people had the perfect day.
Before I left the Isla I was able to observe the joy of the cruise passengers enjoying the beauty of the Isla. What touched me most was this elderly couple. I saw them walk the beach twice and though they were slow I could somehow sense their devotion to each other and the desire to get the most out of each day. When she bent over to pick up a shell he so very carefully helped her up again.
I also saw a single elderly gentleman, was he alone or was his wife still on board, too frail to get off and enjoy Mazatlan or the Isla? He was extremely slow and would stop every five or six steps. I was so tempted to go to him and offer to help him walk the beach. But instead I simply watched and willed both him and the couple the strength to continue as far as they wished. One day that will be Colin and I, strolling along a warm beach….
I went into town on my own and Colin came along later for his hair cut. No photos…..
As we returned to the Isla, the first of the four ships was heading out. So much power in these vessels. The last one is the Veendam ( Holland America ) which we have sailed on in the past where we did a lot of our ballroom dancing.
Tippy Toes, my hair salon was behind schedule. Cruise folks dropped in with no appointments, others dropped in to get an autographed copy of one of Deborah’s three novels. Heck I had trouble finding a pulmonia, had to walk two blocks and flag one down on the way to get there on time. Everyone was happy that the ships were in port. However we personally were in a rush. We never left Tippy Toes until 4:45PM and we had a party/posada starting at 5PM on the Isla 😐 We were about 45 minutes late but no worries, it was just fab once we did get there.
We were almost the last to arrive, but not quite and there was still much to eat. Some of the food such as the fish was provided by the RV Park owner and the rest as a pot luck by us RVers. I made a pasta salad from a recipe created by George of Our Awesome Travels. It was a huge success. The best part was that I could make it a day ahead and let it sit and marinate leaving me free to go into Mazatlan the day of the party.
A three piece band was also provided and they were really good.
I did draw the line at the jump jive, but Jeanne was the perfect partner for Colin. Note that Ishmael and Colin have switched hats and it certainly got Ishmael on the dance floor.
However I managed to dance….
…and dance and dance.
I really had a great time and honestly can’t remember when I last had so much fun. I must say special thanks to Debbie for these photos.
With or without Colin I danced and danced.
I think I was cleansing the past and getting on with the future. I love to dance.
Neither of us expected the evening to be so very special. It was a fund raiser for the Christmas Hamper fund for the poorest of the poor on the Isla. Actually no long a food hamper program but rather food vouchers at one of the two stores here on the Isla. This was the third fund raiser this month and this evening just over 9000 pesos was raised 😀
Tonight there was a silent auction and I won this lovely chocolate cake. Of course I can’t eat it as I am allergic to caffeine but I will have a good taste and share the rest with friends and RVers tomorrow.
Such a contrast from yesterday. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. You must live each day to the fullest.
No question you had a great time.
I felt so free and light and just enjoyed each moment.
I love your outfit! How perfect for the party. So glad things are looking up. Isn’t it interesting how emotions ebb and flow? If we just let them come and observe them as they flow through us, knowing they’ll change into something else, it’s so much easier than attaching to them and letting them carry us down. Hard sometimes I know. Crying is so cleansing. This time of year is interesting in regards to emotions for sure. Hugs to you.
Thank you Barbara. I had no idea that I would be dancing and it turned out to be the perfect dancing outfit. I appreciate your hugs. I think it is very difficult to just let emotions flow thru and not react. I am the type that grasps onto something and experiences it to the fullest….perhaps I need to try a new approach. Appreciate your input.
Nice that you had a wonderful day. Nothing like some dancing to lift your spirits.
G;ad you enjoyed the salad it is so refreshing.
Thanks so much for sharing your recipe. I agree, the dancing was cleansing.
Sounds like a really super day.
I would say that it was one of my top ten in a long while. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I am glad for the locals that there are so many ships in port but I don’t think I would enjoy walking around town with that many people around.
Looks like you danced up a storm and had a fantastic evening.
Ruth
When I went over to Max about 1:20PM there were no pulmonias and I had to walk a few blocks and flag one down. It only took a few moments. It was exciting to see so much activity in town however you are right, it was not a day to hit the tourist areas or the mercado nor the Plazuela Machado.
What a riot! Must also look up George’s salad recipe.
Colin and I did have a blast, I can’t remember that last time I felt so happy. George’s recipe was very tasty but next time I would decrease the oil and the sugar…..worth a try to keep it a bit healthier.
Awww, you and Colin look so sweet twirling around, and it looks like you were having so much fun. I think dancing is one of the best ways to let your hair down and “shake it all off.” 😉
Thanks Cat it really was so much fun and in part to the great band and their music. I really did let my hair down….I think some of my fellow RVers were surprised at what the saw. Such a contrast from my normal persona. Who knows what the new year will bring 🙂
Hey, I’m getting excited!
Me too….but you don’t dance 🙁
That looks like a fun night – and such a good cause. This is the kind of fun you deserve.
Thank you my friend. The total amount raised was very high which is great considering we are fewer this year. Not sure of the details but we should be able to help 50 families this Christmas. Really amazing for the small amount of people that we are.
What a great day (and evening) you had!! I have only ever seen those ceramic Christmas trees before in Alberta. Wish, wish, wish I could find one now.
Any of your readers know where I could get one???
Enjoy!!!
I have had mine for years and years now. Have you googled them?
We were on that cruise ship (Crown Princess) in the lead leaving that day. We were awakened by the roosters crowing that morning as we pulled into dock.
Doreen how fun to know that you were on that ship. I hope you had a great day in Mazatlan.
