Good Friday and our first beach overniters.
14 lanchas on the Mazatlan side at Playa Sur transporting visitors non stop to Stone Island.
By noonish police were called in to direct traffic outside the RV gates. The new road certainly brought in a huge amount of vehicles.
Traffic never slowed until sunset.
It was amazing to watch an empty beach transform moment by moment.
Taken from the roof of our RV.
The girls only went out on the beach early in the AM before the crowds arrived.
Not quite as many folks on the Saturday.
The weather became cloudy on the Saturday and quite overcast on Sunday morning with sun later in the day but that never stopped anyone from having a great time.
At one point I counted 15 banana boats going non stop.
A constant patrol of military and lifeguards and the occasional Federales helicopter.
A grand time was had by all including us. We are so glad that Easter was early this year and we were able to stay and enjoy the fun.
Sadly tons of garbage was left behind. Everyday many of the RVers went out early in the morning to clean the beach, day after day. Sad to see such a mess. One morning as I was toting 4 large bags of garbage back to our place a Mexican woman stopped me and said ” I am sorry “. She was pointing to the garbage I was carrying and said that some people were stupid. Over a bit of conversation she told me that she was a teacher visiting Mazatlan for the weekend and that she was teaching her classes to not litter. The garbage did go from one end of the beach to the other, most areas have been cleaned but some as of this morning, way down the beach was still a mess. Piece by piece it will be cleaned, mostly by us gringos.

Too packed & noisy for my taste, too packed for comfort; I rather be in a desert island !
Certainly not something we would do on a regular basis but for 4 days it is great to watch and enjoy the action. As the hordes are mostly from Mazatlan the beach is usually empty by sunset except for the few tent campers. This is only the second time in 7 years that Easter has fallen in March while we are scheduled to be here. Likely won’t happen again for many years.
WOW!!!!!!!
rocmoc n AZ/Fld/Baja
….and you thought it was busy when you were here!
Slowly, ever so slowly, and as the young are taught in schools the situation will change and hopefully they will take the habit of no liter home to the parents. While in Rincon Guayabitoes on a couple of occasions we saw Mexican families pick up the trash that other Mexican families had left – what a good thing to see and a great start – it really is not much effort to haul out your refuge but more trash barrels would help, too.
I asked about putting out garbage cans and the owner of the RV park said that they would be stolen 🙁
PS loved the photos of the beach and especially your Girls
Thank you Sandy. Difficult to decide which of the many photos I took to share.
Crowded beaches like that are the norm in Europe. I too prefer quiet.
Thank goodness we have the beauty and quiet 99.9% of our time here.
Our first time here for Semanta Santa …….enjoyed all the festivities , food and music
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves
Glad we had to chance to see all the people coming and going from the lancha from our roof top
Even in the long line ups to get across they were singing and having fun
Saw a couple temporary banos and showers from our roof top , kinda sketchy
all in all a good time
nice to see you briefly……hope to get together next year
Nancy and Randy
safe travels home
Yes you would have got some different views 🙂
One of the down sides to Mexican culture. 🙁
Well hopefully it is changing.
Looks like great fun!!
