Back from the vet
What a long day it has been for us, I am worn out. But first a quick update on Caeli.
She had her ultrasound and it was not just the bladder area but her entire abdominal area and everything appeared fine except that her pancreas seemed mottled what ever that means. No stones nor tumors were found. They suggested doing an xray to see it there might be a tiny stone in her urethra but that it was unlikely. They also wanted to do an entire blood panel on her just in case. She had one done six months ago and it was normal. We declined and said that we would wait until Friday when her urine culture comes back. That should give us an idea of what type of infection she has and if the antibiotics are not working and we need to try different ones. Meanwhile she continues on antibiotics and pain meds as needed. She is doing really well and sleeps a lot. Apparently she just lay quietly on her back for the procedure and barely needed to be held in place. She sure was happy to see us once it was all over.
With the $1139.00 we spent on teeth cleaning last week and the $500.00 incurred to date over Caeli’s bladder infection we need to take things a bit slower right now. Our next steps will be determined on Friday when the lab results come in.
Time for a well deserved glass or two or more of wine 😉
Just found out today that my nephew has been working the Fort McMurray fire since the beginning. In fact he has been working on Alberta forest fires since the end of February and has had only 2 days off. He works in one of the helicopters that drops water on the fires. Thanks for all your hard work Nathan.

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t do another blood panel…It’s the least invasive way to look for problems…If she has kidney problems (stones) …or something else …you need to know. I know it’s expensive…we have spent over 5,000 twice for knee surgery for one of our our dogs and not regretted a penny. I get so much back from my pets. I think we’ve spent more on our pets than our children when they were home..ha..ha…(and we are not wealthy). credit cards are amazing…ha…It’s a difficult decision about when it’s “enough” best wishes…you know what’s best for your family…
Thank you for your heartfelt comment. I agree with you that our pets mean so very much to us. We have not ruled out doing the blood work nor the x-ray but have decided to defer a few days and wait on the urine culture. One step at a time. Knee surgery on a dog, have never heard of that before, wow!!
Good luck will all those tests hope things turn around soon.
Thanks. She seems fine today.
My fingers are crossed for the urine test to show that she is getting much much better. We just said no to an ultrasound on Skittlez. We are spending a fortune on our girls and as much as they are a part of the family and we love them, we need to take a more conservative approach to their old age. I can’t imagine being poked that many times on my leg. Glad that’s over with for you.
I agree about the age thing with our girls. In Caeli’s case it could be as simple as having used the wrong antibiotic or not having her on it long enough the first time.
Hope Caeli is beginning to feel better and that her results show improvement. I don’t blame you a bit for deferment for a few days. It’s a lot to put them through every vet visit in addition to the expense.
Great to hear from you Colleen. We have been to the vet every second day for the last week and a half. Way too much which is why we left Carmeh at home yesterday as she was getting to very stressed.
