End of May reminiscing
It was 15 years ago about the 29th of May that we took possession of our brand new 2001 RoseAir RV made by Rexhall. It was only our second RV, the first being a 35 foot Fleetwood with no slides which we bought in September of 1999.
We purchased both vehicles brand new and had never even camped together. We took to RVing very fast. We would have been happy in the smaller Pace Arrow but our family increased with the addition of two dogs, Cloii and Channel and the extra space was nice to have. Plus Colin really wanted a diesel pusher. We have been in many many places in our 40 footer that many would not even dream of trying.
About six years ago I started this blog. I was tired of sending out what I called travelogue emails and attaching dozens of photos and then having the computer system crash in whatever RV park we were in and having to start all over again. Those were the early days of emailing from Mexico. Back in the spring of 2010 I met Larry who writes the Amazing Vanstones . At that same time I also met George of Our Awesome Travels . We were all spending our first winter season on the Isla de la Piedra/Stone Island just across the shipping channel from Mazatlan, Mexico @ Tres Amigos RV Park. I can’t remember when they arrived but we had towards the end of October 2009. It was a first time in Mexico for both of them but Colin and I had already been traveling Mexico in an RV for 7 years. Our first trip was to the Baja in January of 2003. After that we traveled a great deal of mainland Mexico, both coasts as well as inland. It was through Larry and George that I discovered what blogging was all about and here I am 6 years later.
My first post was May 28th, 2010. On May 31st, 2010 we had visitors who also had their first winter in Mexico that year and who still RV there and still have the same two pups, well older dogs now. And so this blog was born. I worked very hard at publishing each day but life got in the way such as a car wreck, two new hips for me at different times and the death of first my mother and then my father. I just could not keep up the daily push. I was relieved when I mentally was able to let it go and just publish at will.
I am proud to say that in the last 6 years, exactly, I have managed to post 1705 posts which averages out to about 284 posts per year. Last May 27th I posted about Carmeh becoming paralyzed. This blog has become a diary of our lives over the past six years. Now when I want to know what date such and such occurred I simply use my blog search to find the information.
Who knows what the future holds, but I believe that I will keep posting for as long as I can. I don’t see myself posting everyday but I will when I have something to share with you or simply something I want to document for the 5C’s.

I’ve been with you since the beginning and am surprised it’s only been six years! Seems like “we” have been RVing in Mexico a lot longer than that. 😉
SO GLAD you started blogging! You are a tremendous source of information and a tremendous inspiration. Thank you both for all you’ve shared over the years – both narrative and photos. It’s lovely to come here virtually daily and be a part of your lives. I’ve prayed as much for you two, the girls, and your folks (Colin’s mom too) as I have for my own family during these years.
Bless you all – and I hope this blog continues for a very long time!
What great memories – have been following you for at least 4 years and what a fun time it has been. Have had so many great tips from your blog and so enjoy all the photos especially the sunsets. I so admire your devotion to your blog and readers. So thank you Contessa, Colin and the Girls for sharing your life with all of us. Many hugs to all of you.
I too enjoy your blog. You don’t have to post every day, just relax and post when you can. We will be here.
Ditto to both Barbara’s and Sandy’s comments. So love reading about your adventures.
Thank you so much for your wonderful blogs! I love reading every word you write! I hope we can meet up with you next year if we’re in Mazatlan!
I remember when we first met you in Dec 2009 on the isla and you asked about blogging,
When we went fulltime in 2006 I started our blog. But have been rving since 1972 no record other than some old photographs.
Like you our blog is a daily record of our lives.
Keep up the good work.
Just thinking back to Mexico, I recall we met you at Punta San Miguel in Celestino, that may have been before you stayed at the Isla. I will go through the pictures and see if we took a shot of your set up. We always stopped there on our way to Teacapan.
Great memories!
A really great post today. It interesting how you kept and still keep written journals of your travels. That’s a lot of work, then added time for blogging. I’ve tried different ways of keeping a journal from hand written, to Microsoft Word and using a blog. Some say private blogs aren’t really private but I find that format to be the best way. It is so much easier to look back at certain times of the year or a specific subject on a blog.
Keep blogging and blog when you want as you always have interesting posts and great photos.
Found the pictures (March 2008), sent them to your Gmail account!
Just wanted to thank you for your blog. Even though we have never met, I feel like I know you and yours. I enjoy your ups and sympathize with the downs. Keep up the good work and have a good summer.
We love your blog, it’s always a good read. Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on 10 years! I use my blog as a referral to where and what we were doing. It is a great way to keep things documented.
And we sincerely enjoy and laud your efforts!!! A little slice of life…
Nice to read the story of how you started your blog. I always look forward to your new posts and understand there is more to life than keeping all your ‘fans’ updated on a daily basis. I think for me, the waiting in suspense, sometimes makes me appreciate it more anyway.
Congratulations on 10 years! 🙂
UPDATE…..I said in the original ‘here I am 10 years later’. I never have been good at math, 2010 to 2016 is only 6 years of posting 🙁 I have changed the original text.
Don’t worry Contessa, I am not too good at math either! 🙂
Happy 6th! 😉
With the change in our local government, I had to start over on getting our road paved. I needed dates of when the work started, finished, and pics of what went wrong. The blog came to the rescue. Everything is there.
Your motorhome is aging beautifully. Amazing that it’s 15 years old and like brand new. Some people are good at taking care of things, others aren’t. We’re kind of in the middle.
Congratulations on the six year anniversary!
Have enjoyed reading your blog and am so happy that we were able to meet the C’s.
Know that more adventures are in your future, looking forward to more posts and photos.
Howdy, I’m glad I found your blog a few years ago….
My wife kept track of our travels on a calendar, I still do the same now that she is gone….Piles of them from the past 20yrs….Kind of nice to reread them and remember our travels.
Keep on posting!
