What can I say other than I am shrinking
The weather continues to be most abnormal for the Okanagan. We aren’t doing much out of doors other than getting one dog walk in between rain showers. Last year at this time Colin was having a difficult time getting his photos taken due to smoke from the forest fires. So far we have very very few fires because of all the rain. Neither is good for our business. Life used to be much simpler before the extremes in weather began.
We re lit the pilot light on the fireplace and have it had on here and there over the past few days. It has been too windy for canoe or kayak rides. We have managed to get a few errands done and some chores done. Colin even found time between the showers over the past three days to wax and polish my car and it looks brand new.
Not too much exciting happening at the moment. We ran out of canned dog food Friday evening 😯 The girls get 1/4 cup of kibble twice per day with a teaspoon of canned food to make it more palatable. For their second meal of the day, at dinner, we add grated raw carrots and zucchini to the mix. Normally I have to order the canned food in 2 weeks ahead of time. We ran out because we were preoccupied with my body during June and did not make a note that we were on the last two cans. I called every pet store in town before I found the only one that carried it in stock. So that was our big excursion Saturday. We also stopped at an orchard and picked up some cherries ( likely the last ones because of the rain ) and some peaches. The peaches are not local ( not ready yet ) but come from Osoyoos, further south. I found the one I tried today tasteless. I am certain that there will be better ones to come. I was surprised to see the local apricots ready and being sold.
While at Walmart last Thursday I made two observations. One was a very nice BMW with the license plate “WY WAIT”. Good for them. Enjoy it now if you can. The other was that the parking lot is dirty as in filthy. Fellow RVers who have overnighted at Walmart’s in the USA will commiserate with me at how the machines that are used nightly to keep the parking lot clean also keep us awake from time to time. Looking at our dirty parking lot I won’t growl so much next time we boondock at a Walmart.
Do any of you get bone density studies done? Here in Canada you can get one done every three years ( the cost is covered by our health care system ) as long as your doctor orders it. My last one three years ago indicated that I had shrunk. Now I have shrunk even more. In the last 3 years I have shrunk .6 of an inch, that is just over 1/2 inch. The good news is that my bones are staying the same. Thank goodness. Calcium on a regular basis and Vitamin D and walking are keeping me going. After two hip replacements, one does become concerned.

I’ve only ever had one bone density test – when they were trying to figure out what I had (fibromyalgia in the end). Our weather has been a lot rainier than normal, no kayaking for us although we don’t really have time now. We did manage an after-dinner walk by the ocean last night which was nice, Buddy loved it. We have a 2 km circular walk around the Courtenay air park where small private planes and float planes can take off. We all needed it. It wasn’t that great of a day here but when we got done our company work at 2pm we put up some twinkle lights on the patio that we bought in Bellingham last weekend and we were sweating bigtime – very humid! Haven’t turned on the fireplace though.
It is not easy to diagnose fibromyalgia. That sounds like an interesting 2KM walk. I would love your lights. I always pick mine up in the US on the way to Mexico.
We are getting al the nice weather here so can’t complain. Like you when the weather changes we always have something else to do. I am almost inches shorter than I was 20 years ago. But the walking healthy eating and vitamins help.
Nice that someone is getting good weather. I know that you are in great shape and do all the right things.
I don’t care what anyone says. Vitamin and mineral supplements are very cheap insurance. Doctors just don’t like it because they are taught in medical school that it is bad for their economy. If they were worthless, why do doctors recommend vitamin supplements to pregnant women?
I agree. I do have to tell you though that my doctor here does recommend calcium and Vit. D. I was surprised when she called me last Friday at 5:30PM to tell me that my bone density was fine and to remind me of the amount of calcium that I should be taking. However the last doctor did not.
