Friends come to visit

Longtime friends, Jannose & Colin came to visit for a few days.

Longtime friends, Jannose & Colin came to visit for a few days.  Happy hours with them are mostly spent talking about travel and where they have been ( retired now for 9 years ) and where they are off to next.

They were only here for a few days so Colin took two days off so that we could enjoy our guests.  Just another thing we can do now if we want to, in the past Colin would have worked most of the days and taken one evening off.  I prepared a feast for our first dinner.  I do have to admit that I was dragging myself around as we had a very busy and full weekend.  More on that in another post.

I prepared beet salad, Caesar salad and if I say so myself the best potato salad ever.  Colin grilled the salmon and asparagus.  We ate like we might not see food again and then we ate the fresh peach cobbler I had prepared.

We were off about 11:15 the next morning with

Our plan the next morning was to do some wine tasting and have lunch.  Here we are at Arrowleaf Cellars.  That is Okanagan Lake behind us.  Such lovely grounds complete with a picnic area not to mention the perfect view.

The tasting here is complementary if you have lunch or buy some wine.

I only included this photo so that you could see that the lovely view we enjoyed. Had Colin not been working all day today he would likely have fixed my eyes.

Next we heade towards Vernon and had Kalamalka Lake beside us.

Next we headed towards Vernon and had Kalamalka Lake beside us.  You might say that the winery along with several others are sandwiched between the two lakes.

Our destination for the next five hours was Predator Ridge , Canada’s top golf resort.   Our friends were golfing the new course up there called the Ridge.  Colin and I were just along for the ride in our golf cart and to enjoy the conversation with our friends and the gorgeous views.

My Colin took 99% of the photos but as I mentioned earlier he is working all day and evening

My Colin took 99% of the photos but as I mentioned earlier he is working all day and evening so I don’t have access to his photos for this post.

Colin has worked many years now for Predator Ridge providing photos of the lifestyle in the resort from golf, to people hiking, biking, doing yoga, enjoying the great restaurants and the many beautiful homes.  A good many of his photos are portrayed in the marketing by Predator Ridge.  This was the place he had that bear encounter last year.

It was a long course to play and our guests were tired.  I was exhausted and I didn’t even golf.  Next stop was dinner at a local Thai restaurant, small place with a handful of tables but great food.  I had my camera with me but totally forgot to pull it out.  We just kept chatting.  We ended the evening back at our place with a final bit of wine and a delicious apple cobbler that Jannose had prepared with apples from her tree in Alberta. Funny how we both made a cobbler, good thing we had two evenings to enjoy them.

They were off early this morning to continue their BC vacation for another few weeks, visiting friends and family along the way.  Meanwhile Colin was off even earlier this morning for his job and I spent the day catching up on everything.  Looks like we are going to start getting busier.

It may be difficult to fit all the jobs in as the weather has changed. Fall is in the air.

Always fun to hang out with friends and enjoy their company. good luck with the weather for Colin’s work.

  2. Here on Vancouver Island it suddenly feels like fall as well, like someone tripped a switch. The weather is much cooler (18 degrees celcius) and quite rainy this week. The water is welcome but I am okay if it warms up a little bit 🙂 Looks like a fun couple of days!

I know how good your salmon is. BTW, cedar planks are available here in Mexico now in CostCo and HEB stores.

Knowing how you cook, I can almost taste that potato salad. Yum!

Thanks Colin and Contessa for a lovely visit. We always enjoy your company and appreciate all you do for us. Especially the delicious meals you prepare and Colin taking time out of his busy schedule to hang out with us. 2 days went by altogether too fast!
