It was a quiet night in the Yakima Walmart. As we were ready to leave at 8AM we saw this.
I feel so sorry for people who are forced to live in a vehicle in a Walmart lot. It was very cool for them to be sitting outside eating breakfast. As we drove away we saw someone else sitting by their vehicle panhandling. It get worse every year.
As we drive past somewhere in the middle of nowhere I spotted diesel for $2.359. However as the day progressed $2.69 seemed the best. Way higher than this time last year.
Our day started down some two lanes roads.
The fog began to thicken.
I will admit to being nervous when I couldn’t see anything. Colin just kept driving.
Carmeh did not have a good morning with her food and slept tor several hours. She did pick up again by the end of the day.
We eventually came out of the fog as we were about a steep and twisty decent to the Columbia River. Between the raindrops on windows you can get a glimpse of the river. We actually missed the turn off but fortunately there was a large area to turn around and get back on the correct road.
The bridge we used to crossed over the Columbia into Oregon.
We are now on I84 in Oregon looking back at the scenery in Washington. We came down all that height very quickly.
Not a great day to get out and site see but still so much to see as one drove along this scenic road. A special bridge just for trains.
The Dalles Dam, one of two along this route.
Private house boats along the shore. Certainly not a boring drive along this 90 minute stretch.
Loved the fall colors across the river.
This is a private island on the river. Colin saw the house and I only caught the backside of it. Their dock was to the right of the photo.
The Columbia River holds a special place in our hearts. Many many years ago we did a re positioning cruise on Holland America from Vancouver, BC to Portland. One of best things about the short cruise was traveling the Columbia River from Astoria to Portland and seeing all the people who live on this great river. There was always someone waving at us from the shore.
Sorry to those who feel this is too many photos. I only have so much bandwidth while in the USA and it quicker to tell the story of our day using my photos. Let me know if you want less.
We stopped to pee the girls about 10:30AM and had to work at getting Carmeh to finish her breakfast. Now you see how tight we are when we travel. Everything revolves around the dogs and the ramps.
The little tug boat that could. Here he is pushing two barges.
I think the sign tells a story. This is only the 6th Trump sign we have seen since the Canadian border. We have however not seen one single Hillary sign. Hmmm, what ever can this mean? Do people not care or is Trump the one?
A lot of heavy rain during our last hour on I5. The girls slept most of the day so we were able to just keep driving except for a very few breaks. That put us at the Eugene Oregon Valley Centre Mall by 2:30PM. Still a 300 mile day but a great location to spend the afternoon and evening.
Caeli in a dog bed on the drivers seat.
Carmeh sitting on my seat observing both the view and Colin setting up the Satellite dish.
The view outside our living room window. There is a walking/biking path just at the far edge of the grass. Very difficult to tell but just to the right of the yellow tree on the left, is yet another river to enjoy, you might see a glimpse of blue. Suzanne, would this not be a great place to meet up? One day I do want to see the rose gardens.
We actually drove 301.4 miles today.
Thank you for all your comments ( and emails ), I just love to get them. For those that have questions, I will get back to you once we have more internet.
We have now found a total of 3 Clinton signs and about 300 Trump signs. From border to border. I suspect a wall will be under construction by end of winter holiday.
Kay, yep, if he wins this election (heaven forbid!), he will probably use all those Trump signs to build “the wall.” By the way, what does it take to become a Canadian citizen if I am on U.S. Medicare insurance? Will be glad when this election is all over! We will not let our granddaughter watch television because of it, and she is not a happy camper! Thanks for listening to my gripes.

Oh dear! Does that mean that we will not get back to Canada? Dee You can just come and live with me:)
You can never have TOO many photos, Contessa!
Happy that you enjoy them.
Love your pics having been on some of those roads. Fall is definitely beautiful up there. Safe travels. As already stated–never to many pictures of your travels.
Thank you my friend. It is a beautiful drive indeed.
Like your pictures and a glimpse into the world you travel in…. Rainy day huh? but love all the colors of Fall and the mountains along Columbia river. Seems such a long ways to go. Travel safe. Doggies seem to settle right in.
Yes it is a long journey south Dolores. Glad you are along for the ride and enjoying the photos.
Love the photos!
Gracias!
Keep posting lots of pics. We love them. Looks like you’re off to a good start. Drive safe and have fun!
Happy to have you on the trip with us.
Yes! We both love that Mall parking lot! 😉 We could have some vino and smell the roses! The rose garden is not that far. I rode my bike again this year, but I think you could walk it. Though maybe not too many roses left at this time of year. They seemed to be their most fragrant in June. Even by August, they seemed to have lost some of their fragrance.
Never too many photos! And I always wonder about that $2.35 diesel. Do you check to make sure it’s not “biodiesel?” I try to stay under 5%.
I wish I could ride in Carmeh’s seat…what a view! 😉
Methinks it too late for the roses this year. You are invited to take Carmeh’s seat and join us.
Great post; I loved traveling through this part of the States! So there were definitely not too many pics! I’m so glad the River Valley Center is still welcoming RVs.
Glad you are enjoying the photos. There were 4 RV’s last night.
So nice to be on the road again, take lotsa photos and post them , great memories.
For certain we are happy to be on the road again.
Enjoying your photos. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Gene, always nice to hear from you. I hope you enjoy the journey.
Keep the pictures coming. I personally think people are afraid to put up signs this election for fear of retaliation on either side. Safe travels and hope the girls have a good trip.
Thanks Sandie. The girls seem to be enjoying being in the RV again.
I cannot imagine living out of a car but I guess if you lose everything that is the backup plan. I am glad Walmart actually gives them a place to park for the night as so many towns seem to just like to move them out of sight.
I just feel sorry for these people and wish there was a way to get them onto a path of recovery.
Contessa, I don’t blame you for being nervous in that fog. I would have been looking for a place to pull off the road!
Hope Carmeh perks up and I love all your pictures. You could never post too many for me. 🙂
The fog was truly frightful and there was no place to pull off. Carmeh is doing well. Okay I will post more photos 🙂
the pictures are great. sometimes they say more than words. too bad it was such an icky day. drive careful. we will be leaving Vegas on Thursday. going to AZ for a week or so.
We are traveling as safe as possible. Do you think we can get together again in Maz for dinner?
I’m in awe of Colin’s ability to just keep driving, and of yours in taking pics from a moving vehicle through wet windows. They look great!
As a former Oregonian, let me point out that your route is taking you through the “reddest” (most conservative) part of the Pacific NW. Thus all the Trump signs. The population centres, and voters, are mostly liberal. Hilary will easily take Washington, Oregon and California, despite the signs you’ve seen.
Happy trails!
