We cheated

We have attended the Mazatlan Carnival parade in person a few times.  The event is full of life and much energy however much fortitude is required as it seems to go on and on and much standing is involved.  We chose not to attend this year but then discovered that we could watch the parade in all its glory, color and detail on television.  We installed a HD Digital TV antenna on the RV roof this past fall and can tune into local stations.  One of the Mazatlan stations, TVP, which is on channel 20.1, showed the entire parade live along with commentary.  So we cheated and watched it all in the comfort of our home on the Isla.  It was fabulous, as we knew who was on each float and were able to see so much more detail than in person due to the close ups of the TV cameras.

The theme of Carnaval this year was De Alebrijes y Dragones ( Of Alebrijes and Dragons )

These photos were taken from the TV last Sunday night.

An Alebrije is a colorful Mexican folk art sculpture depicting a mythical being that is made up of parts of different animals such us wolf teeth, dog or cat eyes, bat wings, serpent bodies, pretty much anything that the designers can come up with.  ( taken from the internet )

We loved the detail we could see on the TV.

The floats were amazing.

Such creativity and color and imagination.

We last saw the parade in 2014 and took many photos.  This is the link to Part 2 of a three part post.  You can click on the link and go ahead and behind to see some great floats with yet another theme.

Tonight ends the sixth day of Carnaval celebrations.  2017 was a great year.

Contessa, can you tell me what brand name and approximate, cost, of the HD digital TV antenna you chose?

There is nothing like the comfort of your own home to watch those huge events. I swear I don’t know how you do it if I only had half of the energy that you have.

I didn’t realize the floats were that big and elaborate, but you do get a sense of both scale and detail from the TV aspect. Wish I could have stayed for this. It looks like so much fun!
