Plodding along
Finally got a call from the dealership today about our Jeep. The service manager took it home last night and with a bit of experimentation was able to replicate the problem. It appears that the driver door may be slightly out of alignment which caused the transmission not to work. Of course Colin asked about the computer not reading the code. Turns out that because the door is only open just enough that the contact points were not aligned there was a problem. However it was not enough of a problem to create a ‘bad’ code on the computer. So they were going to realign the door which should alleviate the problem. We are picking it up at 8AM tomorrow.
We woke up to a fairly blue sky day. Wonderful.
By 10:00AM Colin was booked for full day shoots for the next five days straight. Of course that is only based on clear skies. Does anyone know the dance to keep the smoke away?
Colin put in a 13 hour day today and has the same hours booked for the next five days but that is what he does. Of course for each day taking photos he has another two days on the computer before we can churn out an invoice. Fingers crossed that the smoke stays away for a few days.
No news on my computer today. I did call several places only to discover that the 2015 Mac Air is a particularly difficult case. Apple parts can only be used as it has a particular interface that requires a special proprietary connector. Sounds like Apple is making it more difficult for techs to go around their system.
Thanks for checking in. Taking things slowly and we will see what tomorrow will bring.

Fingers and toes crossed for clear skies. Still pretty bad down here but we did have one really clear day.
Is isn’t amazing how that one clear day just lifts your spirits.
One of the reason Macs are superior is that they are an integrated product. With a PC, you can have components and software from dozens of companies and have them conflicting with each other. Macs are standardised. That makes it much easier to diagnose problems and avoids the conflicts between parts that PCs have. It’s like owning a luxury vehicle — you have tons less maintenance costs, but repairs are pricier.
Regardless of what Apple says, you could go and get repairs done by someone else for a lot less and using knock-off parts. But why put Hyundai Accent parts in a Bentley? Apple is trying to keep up quality and standards and they will warranty their work.
(Since you barely ever use the laptop, why not wait to get it fixed if it’s not an expense you’re comfortable with at this time?)
The Jeep issue made me laugh because it shows how people today don’t know how to fix cars. I’m glad it’s going to get it sorted.
As for the fires, yikes. I’m glad Colin is getting some work done, but distressed for you at how your business has been impacted.
I got it. I will go with the full $500.00 Apple product repair. I appreciate your input. Colin is going full out, at least 16 hours doing his thing what with downloading when he gets back and repacking for the next job. At least when the smoke returns he can photoshop for hours on end.
Do an Indian rain dance; that will tamp down the smoke. Ha! I really don’t know how you guys are breathing well in all that smoke; there must be some respiratory problems going around the resort.
So many are wearing masks and others are forced to stay inside. Fortunately today we had very little smoke but the news tells us that we are back into it this weekend.
