Where did it come from?

The local fire is now about 20% contained and the smoke has not been a major issue until today.   Actually I think we are just all getting used to living in a hazy world.

By mid afternoon today we were socked in.

I seriously thought there was another fire but I couldn’t find anything in the news.  However is was so bad that Colin had to cancel his afternoon and evening photo shoot.  Then about 5PM we got a call from a homeowner in Oliver which is about 124km/75 miles away but almost a two hour drive re city traffic.  Colin has been trying to schedule perfect conditions to take photos of the home and the views for well over a month now.  We have been hired by the architect to do the photography.  He would need to leave about 6:30AM and be gone till about 10:30PM and between the homeowner being away a lot and the smoke, the perfect day was to be tomorrow.  Apparently Oliver is now fully smoked in.  We really don’t know from day to day, morning to afternoon what is happening.  We both have to be totally flexible.

The late afternoon sun surrounded by smoke did make a pretty photo.

On the plus side we were able to have a lovely dinner together this evening which was a nice change.

good luck with it clearing up soon.

  2. So many bloody fires. My stepson who is in the military is on a 12 hour notice to go help with the fires, he just got off leave and back from some training in the East, others in his platoon have already gone to help. My neighbor is an RCMP officer and has gone twice to help guard/evacuate people. At least this time round the Federal government is allowing both the RCMP and military to have a bigger hand in helping unlike the Ft McMurray fire.

Thanks for the detailed information. I think that very very slowly government officials are learning such as our 2003 fire here and as you mentioned the Fort McMurray fire. On the other hand Trump so far is ignoring that aid of Mexico to help with Harvey as they did with Katrina. http://www.snopes.com/2017/08/29/u-s-has-yet-to-accept-mexican-offer-of-hurricane-harvey-aid/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social

Contessa, I sent the article from Snopes.com that you mentioned regarding the offer of assistance from Mexico to the Harvey victims to Rachel Maddow of MSNBC; Rachel has her own fact-based news show which has been nominated for an Emmy. The Texas Governor has said time and time again that there would not be any politics in solving the Harvey flood issue, but that article demonstrates that the governor’s statements were lies. By the way, Mexico DID HELP tremendously after Katrina with the floods in New Orleans when George W. Bush was US President.

Yes I know that Mexico did help tremendously after Katrina as they have helped us now with our fires. You won’t find many who are so grateful to Mexico for all they do than us.

So glad that you are proactive and sending such articles forward.

If you find more news sources published in Mexico, send me the name of the sources, and I’ll send them on to Rachel for her show. She has a staff which checks them out and approaches the “offending party” for a response and then provides the results to the public showing the conflict in statements made by the politicians.
