Computer Issues
My laptop came back with a new hard drive but they were unable to retrieve the data. So just this last Tuesday I had to bring it in along with my desktop to the Geek Squad. It is normally a $150.00 fee but they are doing it as part of my monthly membership at no charge. I was told that it would take 24 – 48 hours at the most. It is still not done and they could not give me a date when it would be ready to pickup.
I am using Colin’s computer for a few minutes to get this to you. No photos as he doesn’t have iphoto. His computer is really high up compared to mine and is extremely awkward to type on plus I have to tilt my neck up. Not fun to use. I am lucky to get an hour here and there to do a few things. However all my passwords are in my computer as well as all my business info. I can’t even do any invoicing nor pay monthly taxes.
Now you know why I have been silent. Hopefully I will be back soon.
By the way Colin did get back from Winnipeg Monday evening and I will have stories and photos for you about how Mommio is managing once my desk is back to normal. Meanwhile I am finding time to do all those involved jobs that don’t need a computer. Try to imagine not having a computer for 3 -5 days.

Too bad your don’t back up on an external drive with the time machine on your Mac’s. When I replace my hard drive. just plug it in and everything is transferred right there.
at the end of every month I back up my computers to an external hard drive. saved me a couple of times.
We back up our desktops every 30 minutes on a time machine. However the laptop is not a primary computer, just an extra and it has never been backed up. It will be in the future.
What is being transferred primarily are my inboxes ( 3 ) and many folders, bookmarks, addresses, setting up 3 browsers and the business files, etc. They need to set up the computer from scratch. For some reason they needed the desktop itself rather than my time machine to do the transfer. Otherwise I would still have my desktop during the transfer.
Bummer when you have computer problems. I’m going through limping stages with two of mine. One got a new hard drive with all data saved, but it needs more memory. It’s older but runs as slow as a snail but has a 20 inch screen and a numeric keypad.
The other has a broken corner on the case but works like a champ. The DVD doesn’t want to work now but I just can’t give it up.
Hang in there.
In this day and age having to go without a computer for 3 – 5 days would be hell. One of our first world problems!
