The latest
I hope you enjoyed my last non computer post on Mommio. It was fun to write. Thanks for all your comments. Life is so sad for some of our elderly.
Once again several hours this past Wednesday were taken up with computer issues.
My day started with a visit to Mr Geek Manager who said he already knew about all my problems from speaking with Mr Mobile Geek. He also told me that he had been doing some research on it and also that just by simply Googling Apple and High Sierra and Firefox it was obvious that there was a major glitch that a new update from Apple on the new OS system would fix. But when will that happen and will it even address my specific problems? Anyway he kept the laptop and promised to resolve the toolbar/bookmark issue quickly. Meanwhile before I left on Wednesday I purchased some ink for the new printer as I plan to do quite a bit of work while in Mexico. He gave me 20% off “because you are such a nice person”. Duh!! Well if he meant that I hadn’t done him physical harm yet, then he was correct. Regardless the $18.59 saved was money in our pocket and not the store.
Wednesday late afternoon, after running errands and dropping things off at the RV, I finally had time to look at my computer. I had close to 200 emails in my inbox 😯 As I started to go thru and delete them, it quickly became obvious that I had already deleted these over the last 24 hours. I proceeded to re delete them and they were back again within an hour. This had happened to me once before and by calling the Geeks it was suggested that Apple Mail was not playing nice with Gmail. They talked me through resetting my mail but I could not recall what I had done so I called them again. I really think that I should have a direct line to the store. Mr. Manager Geek asked me to to bring in the desktop so he could look at it. I refused. He said that he would try and figure out the problem from laptop. He never did.
Meanwhile I reached out to an online friend in the US who talked me thru doing something with my Gmail account which in the end resulted in it having to re upload hundreds of files. While doing that my Apple email and inbox disappeared and I had to chose between quitting or rebuilding my inbox system. I chose the latter as I did not want to lose my emails and filing system. It took hours for Mail to do this and once that was in place, several more hours for Gmail to download all the files. Needless to say my computer time was limited and the laptop was once again in the shop. Fortunately I had a lot of non computer work to keep me occupied.
So far the two mail systems played nice. Meanwhile Google reports show that this also is a problem with the system.
I spent Thursday and Friday finalizing most of my travel errands including buying Mommio needle nose pliers which she says she needs 😀 In trying to save time I had a prescription filled at a new more convenient pharmacy. I was beyond shocked that the cost was a full $118.36 less than the same script that I usually fill at my preferred pharmacy. In September I paid $253.47 for 180 pills and just now I only paid $135.11 for 180 pills. This is the only medication I take, one pill per day and a $236.72 savings per year is a lot. The pharmacist explained that some pharmaceutical companies give them a special card to push their non generic medication. This card allows them to charge the same price as if they had filled my prescription with the generic medication. I had no idea. So I called my original pharmacy and yes they have a card for my medication but they chose not to use it for everyone. What? I promptly informed them that they were no longer getting my business. For those who want to know it was Shoppers. I now will only deal with IDA.
My other big savings was at M&M where I picked up some frozen meals for the trip. I saved $1.00 per item as they were on sale and then was given a further $5.00 discount coupon at the till. Another $27.00 saved with no effort on my part. I would have spent that money regardless just as I would have with the medication. Sometimes things just work out.
Got Colin’s cell bill for September. He talked for 1,307 minutes, it was a busy month. Thank goodness his plan costs us $40.00 per month. I also just found out that roaming in the US for each billing cycle is only $20.00CAD. Last year we paid $60.00. So I might be computer jinxed but somehow money seems to sticking around just a wee bit longer.
I did pick up the laptop on Friday and it has been repaired. Apparently Firefox was corrupt and even though Mr Mobile had reloaded a new Firefox app it kept going to the old settings which were corrupt and causing the toolbar/bookmark error. So once that was figured out and the old settings deleted all is well again with my laptop or so I can only hope. It did take more then the stated time to do the repairs but at least I have it back before we head out to Winnipeg next Friday. Meanwhile I have another Apple Mail problem with the destop but after a few hours last night I now have figured out to just restart my computer at least once per day. That should keep me going until the next software update. Okay enough with computer talk 😕
