A fast trip into Mazatlan
Monday we had two cruise ships pull into port, this was the Grand Princess. coming into port. The other was the Holland America Westerdam which we have been on in the past, just can’t quite remember when or where.
With no dogs to walk or deal with we were off early in the morning. First stop was to drop off our laundry. This older home set in the midst of rubble was being given a fresh coat of paint. In a few months the mango tree on the left will be full of fruit.
I just had to snap a shot of this very laid back kitty sleeping on a bench on the Mazatlan side of the shipping channel.
We were just wandering around Centro and came across this beauty.
Next stop was the Mercardo/central market where at this booth in the fish section we got several pieces of the best ever dorado ( mahi mahi ) that we have ever had. In a few days we will be going back to get some shrimp.
Just around the corner we came across these pieces of meat. I really don’t know how to describe them, sort of like a hind section or two of beef. Certainty not appealing to me, who has not eaten meat for over 40 years.
We got all of our fruit and veggie shopping done in record time and were soon back at the embarcadero. This is the first time that I have seen these large jelly fish floating next to the dock. I must add, floating among the debris.
The pelicans were being well fed Monday morning.
In fact they were stealing some fish from the basket. Can you see the second pelican just behind the first with his beak about to steal a snack?

The port was full with two cruise ships and a few cargo vessels.
It wasn’t long before the ferry ride was over and we were back on the Isla.
Lunch was a variety of fresh fruit that we had picked up at the mercado.
Monday was a good day plus we got in a normal long beach walk. This is the Westerdam heading out towards Puerto Vallarta.

Contessa, your fruit plate looks delightful. Do I see banana, water melon, orange or grape fruit, and papaya?
Since Beach is having his first knee replacement on Jan. 19, 2018, we will not be able to get away from our cold weather in Jan. and Feb. So, I have attempted to get creative for at least a few days for a man who cannot walk very far without experiencing pain. When I saw your photos of the cruise ships in port, I said AHA! The ship will do most of the moving for him, there will be no driving for him, sign him up for in-place activities like making chocolate from scratch, and relax in a beach chair with a Mexican beer. If the pain gets too bad, we have a clinic and doctor on board to assist in alleviating the pain. So I have made reservations for a suite on Norwegian Epic leaving Port Canaveral, FL on Dec. 23 and returning Dec. 30. Beach thinks he could physically deal with this for 7 days, and he will get a break before the surgery. I have memories in my head of what you went through after hip replacement and therapy; so, we know what to expect in real life, not just what the surgeon tells us.

The cruise sounds like a perfect idea. I do hope that Beach has bee given some specific exercises to prepare his knee for surgery. They really help with the post surgery rehab.
Yes, he has an appointment at Summerville Medical Center before we leave for instruction on pre-op exercises and other info.
Great news as I really believe that the prep makes it so much easier.
Loved shopping at the Mercado always so much to check out and buy and always good.
enjoyed your trip into town just like we did many times and the old cars that ca be found around there as well.
Actually George that is the first old car I have seen around town in nine winters. Cuba is where you find a lot of them.
I miss that kind of fresh fruit lunch….I miss Mexico! Our travel plans for the next 2 years don’t include it but maybe after that
The pineapple was so very sweet and the rest very tasty and so fresh. You never know what the future will hold but nothing like putting it on your wish list.
The beach in Nuevo Mazatlan was littered with small blue jellies yesterday. More than we’ve seen before. Why…who knows.
We haven’t had any here yet and very seldom do. Maybe it has something to do with the water becoming a tad cooler.
