We certainly enjoyed our last day
Last Saturday was our last full day in Guayabitos and we spent a good deal of it walking the beach. We were both missing our long beach walks.
This fellow was entertaining on his balcony, not very good, but enough to draw a crowd.
The beach is short but it certainly holds a lot of people, a real mix of visiting Mexicans, Americans and Canadians. Many snowbirds fly down and simply rent a hotel room for a few months.
We pretty much walked from one end of the beach to the other. I met up with two fellows at the Flamingo RV park who plan to visit the Isla in March, one coming sooner than the other. They had contacted me through RV.net and I just happened to be in the area, so we were able to visit and I helped them with a variety of details. That RV park along with others kick out the RVing snowbirds so they can fill the park with Mexican tenters over Semena Santa, much more lucrative for the park. What is amazing it that the one fellow is camping in the exact same spot that Colin and I had been in about 15 or so years ago. We looked at each other and shook our heads as we had no idea how we could ever get our 40 footer into that spot again. Oh to be young and fearless.

Colin thought that maybe we should come next year and rent a room on the beach to watch all the activity. I had to remind him that we already are renting a spot on the beach which has much less activity but is still interesting to watch. He tends to become focused on his guitar for hours on end and doesn’t see as much as I do 🙂
The pelicans were rather tame walking around everyone looking for handouts.
We stopped for a final visit with Sandy and Rex. An endless sea of umbrellas. I don’t think the Isla gets this busy even during Easter week and this is just a typical weekend.
We walked to the other end of the beach in search of our first meal of the day. It was after 2PM but we were still full from all the food the day prior. This a view from our table. I like the palm shadow on the sand.
There we are. They were kind enough to pull our table forward into the sun for us.

There is just the one all inclusive resort in the area and I guess this is one of their scheduled activities.
The guys in green were leading the ladies and the one guy in the back row. They seemed to be having a good time.
I am sad to say that these are the last of my photos from our road trip. I had more from this particular day and those of our return trip on Sunday. I downloaded those along with all of the rest of the trip into my desktop yesterday but for some reason they did not end up in i Photo. I even checked with Colin that I had done everything correctly before I deleted my flash drive which I always so. So it appears that I have no further photos. There was one really neat one of me sitting by the pool working on editing photos with wine at hand that Colin had taken.
We came home via San Blas and took a fair number of photos along the way as I wanted to show other RVers that other than in one or two areas, that one would have to go slow, the old regular Highway 74 was just fine to travel along. We would feel totally comfortable taking our RV that way. Of course just North of Aticama there is the new autopista up to Tepic which would make things even easier. So I am missing my neat San Blas photos with the new sign and huge new pier in behind as well as all my view photos as we climbed up to Highway 200. Colin stopped at a bakery to buy banana loaf and muffins and those photos are missing as well. Then yesterday on our first beach walk he rescued a soggy pretty butterfly and dried it out, set it in one of our plants and eventually it flew away. Those were very special photos.
So somehow I screwed up but it is what it is. I don’t need any advice on how I should have done things, I have been doing things this way for ten years and I guess I have been lucky that this is the first time that I have lost something. I do have up to these photos on this post in the laptop. Fortunately you only lost one post of the road trip and by now you are probably tired of it all. Time to move on and get back to some Isla photos. We had a great time on our road trip and are already planning where we are going next winter.

Not that this will make you feel any better, but I lost over 5,500 photos that somehow disappeared from my Photos installation recently. I recovered 4,000 of them from backups and almost 1,000 from the blog. The other 500 went from my phone directly into Photos and were never backed up. I have lost all trust in that app as it has never worked properly and will never let Photos delete anything on my phone without backing up the phone first. I’m sorry this happened to you too.
I downloaded directly from my camera to iPhoto on my desktop. It looked like it had loaded but sadly it had not. It is the new iPhoto that is causing the glitches and there is nothing I can do about it.
That’s the exact same thing that happened to me. I’m also on the new crappy Photos app.
I’m not sure if this will help you in the future, but I got some advice that will definitely help me:
Go to Photos menu at the top, then Preferences, then General.
Make sure that the box next to Importing is checked. If it’s not, then you’re not actually moving anything in your Photos library; you’re just creating shortcuts. So if you delete the pictures where you took them before backing them up elsewhere, they are gone! Bitter lesson to learn.
I do have everything being imported correctly. In my case it was a one time error likely based on importing close to 1000 photos in a sort period of time and my not leaving enough time for them to upload.
🙁 Ah, that could do it. Always make sure the pie chart is full! 🙁
http://prntscr.com/iak7s6 The “pie chart” shows up when you’re importing. It will get darker the more photos are imported and then disappear when the import is done.
I just sent Apple a half dozen messages ranting about Photos and included that there should be a failsafe keeping folks from deleting source photos until they are fully imported.
Don’t know what you mean by the pie chart. Just uploaded photos tonight and saw nothing like that. I dojn’t have the latest ‘photos’ but am using the previous one as it was closest to what i had been using and it is still called iPhoto.

It was a fun day. We are now back here on the Isla but the weather is dull and grey.

Welcome back to the Isla. You had a great road trip. The Guayabitos beach looks a little too busy for me, but you have to love the colours…
Yes the colors were lovely but I prefer the quiet of our beach.
You had a wonderful trip and I was exhausted just reading about it! We have been south to that area a few times but enjoy the quietness of our beach here in Mazatlan. I think that many people would be way too much for me on a daily basis. I know the Isla gets busy at times but for the most part you can enjoy your quiet walks. Also…remember my accidental loss of pictures on my camera card. I downloaded a free program called Recuva and it found all my pictures. Just a thought…it was any easy process once I figured out what to do. I’ll bet it could find them on your flash drive as well.
Actually the Isla only gets busy during Semena Santa. Sometimes when the cruise ships are in we get less than 100 people on the beach from 10Am to 2PM.
Thanks so much for the photo recovery program but the free download is only good for Windows. Being a Mac I would have to pay about 80.00US.

Glad you enjoyed to road trip. Fortunately they weren’t photos that were very important.
