A visit to the Amalfi Coast was our day 3 in Naples.
Please note that this is my second post for today.
Our original plan was to do this tour on the Wednesday but because of weather we switched it out with Pompeii. This was our biggest expenditure on this trip but Colin is a photographer and wanted to be able to pick and choose when to stop along this spectacular drive along the coast and how log to stop for. Again I had to pick just a few photos from the over 300 we had shot.

Sorrento from up high. Those white dots along the bottom of the screen are umbrellas. The road from Naples to Amalfi is full of switch backs, very narrow areas which become even narrower through tunnels. This is not the place to rent a car and do it yourself.
We did not spend a lot of time here but we saw the main shopping area. For some reason the area reminded me of Palm Springs.
This area of the Amalfi Coast is known for its Limoncello. Apparently the lemons grow year round. We discovered Limoncello last year in Venice and have come to love it. Where we live at home you have a choice of two brands. Here there are hundreds of choices, everyone makes their own brand.
I thought this was rather clever. Pushing one child while the other rides which is a good idea here as things are mostly up and down.
Fuel prices are mostly up, prices are per liter as we have in Canada.

I could never tire of the view nor the green hills and cliffs along the coast.
Coming up on Positano.
Our driver told us that this was his favorite town along this area. It wasn’t long before we agreed with him.
Many interesting and different shops line the narrow road down to the beach.

This is thecity of Amalfi in the distance.
You might say that the road into Amalfi is rather narrow. It took almost 30 minutes fro us to pass this bus, first we had to wait for other vehicles and then we had to inch up to a wider part of the road.
Colin had researched and found a boat that we could rent for an hour for a very reasonable amount. He really wanted to take photos of Amalfi from the water.
We ended up only paying for 30 minutes as that is all we needed. One thing we discovered is that the water is always rough along here.

We were ready for a leisurely one hour lunch overlooking the sea.
Usually only a pedestrian area unless someone needs to drive past.
From here it took close to three hours to drive back to Naples. For dinner that night we went to the first and most authentic pizza restaurant in Naples. The only have Margherita and Marinara. The average wait to get in was just over an hour.
This was taken the first night we were in Naples when it was cold and raining. We did not want to wait an hour for dinner so we walked back closer to our apartment and ate in that area.
One just sits were there are empty chairs. We were fortunate to meet some new friends. As you can see the waiter took a blurry photo. Arrivederci amici. Antonio send us and email 🙂

I’m enjoying your trip so much. Glad you got at least one nice day of weather so far. I love that you’re savouring the moment and apparently subsisting on pizza. Not hard to do so when it’s so good!
I hope you are feeling better! I felt like that the last day in Paris, I just told the kids I was going back to the apartment and crashed. Didn’t even go to supper. We only went to Amalfi but I see from your pictures you sure travelled alot of the coast. The ferry was nice as I could take pictures from the water too. The boys surprisingly loved Amalfi, I didn’t expect them to be wowed but they were.
