The critter and the bird

Thank you for all of your comments.  I continue to improve day by day except for a wee relapse a few days ago when I was out the day prior doing some much needed errands.  I think if we had some normal weather for this time of year instead of 60F – 70F  the heat might help dry me out.  Today I did my first walk since we left Barcelona on June 9th.  My mind is eager to complete my posts of our trip.  Soon my body will be ready also.  I am still sleeping 10 hours per night but no longer taking naps in the day.

Meanwhile sometime last week Colin was up early and quietly playing his guitar by the front lake window when he had some critter action.  All of these photos were taken from inside the house.

There was the ‘marmot’ again only this time just off our patio sunning himself on our rocks.

Suddenly a bird flew up, sat on the critter’s back and started pecking at it.  The critter never moved.

The bird would fly off and come back again, over and over.

The critter never moved. Finally after several attempts the bird gave up and sat on the next rock.

Then another attack.

And yet another.  No idea why the bird felt threatened unless it had a nest nearby.

Then the quail stopped by.

Love to see them but hate the mess they leave on the chairs.

Mom, Dad and the kids.  A different family.  This must be their second set of chicks this season.

A different critter sitting over at the neighbors.  Zoomed in through the window.

Yet another critter left this mess on my windshield and along the side of my car just a day ago.  We love all the nature around us but not this so much.  Now that was a very large bird!

Nice to see the wildlife there , but the mess is not fun.
The Gamble’s quails are always fun to watch too.

So happy to hear you are feeling better. Love seeing all the critters. Makes you wonder what the bird was up to with the marmot. Your bird looked like he had a case of “the runs”. All the baby quail are so cute.

  5. Quail babies! So cute. We rarely see them around here, more in the interior.

Or that bird had just eaten A LOT!!!

  7. Super pictures, Contessa. Glad you are feeling better. Our bodies are not used to the different viruses in foreign countries, so it takes longer to get over what ails us 😉
Looking forward to more travel posts when you are up to it.

    Continue to feel better, Contessa.

The other critter is a marmot too. That is their alert posture . Had one living close to us for a couple of years and it was no problem. I think they can be a pest in the okanagan. I like them ! Get well soon.
