They say it might be weeks before we are free of the smoke.
This is the 3rd worst fire season ever here in BC, the first two were in 1950 and 1958. What does the future hold? Is this the “new norm” as they are saying?
We went into Kelowna for a function last night and as we got closer the smoke got thicker. This was taken at a traffic light about 7PM.
We ran the A/C all night. This morning I could barely see the lake and I am standing at the lake edge.
I also could hardly see the sun this morning. See that tiny white dot up there.
Tonight the smoke is so thick that you can’t even see the sun or the pink/red colour of the sun.
I am almost claustrophobic from being inside with nothing to see. Very depressing. I am staring to get upset at being stuck inside. Each time I go outside to take a photo it smells like a dirty ashtray. Colin was out doing some errands and watering the garden, when he came back inside his clothes smelt like smoke. Each time I go outside I start to cough. Colin says that a few of our tomato plants are starting to pack it in, the smoke?
The good news is that our beets are doing very well. Beets tops are so tasty.

If you have a forced air furnace you could turn on just the fan and the furnace will filter the air in your home making it a bit better for breathing. This summer is definitely a bad one for fires. Lovely beets!
We have a high efficiency furnace ( whatever that means ) with a thin filter that stops dust but I don’t think smoke. Usually we run it only on the fan setting until we need to put on the AC. Even if I don’t have anything on it still smells a bit smoky inside. I went around twice yesterday to double check that the windows were completely shut.
A/C BRINGS IN SMOKY AIR. BECAUSE THE HALLS ARE AIR CONDITIONED, I HAD TO PUT A TOWEL AT THE THRESHOLD OF THE DOOR TO BLOCK THE SMOKE FROM THE HALL.
BTW, BEET GREENS ARE MY FAVORITE. LOTS OF BUTTER AND SALT AND PEPPER. YUMMY.
FUNNY. YOUR SUN WAS PINK, MINE WAS REDDISH/ORANGE FOR MANY, MANY MORNINGS.
HOPE IT ALL ENDS SOON SO COLIN CAN GET HIS WORK DONE. THE AIR QUALITY WAS MUCH BETTER HERE TONIGHT SO THE ESKIES GAME GOT THE GREEN LIGHT TO PLAY AND WE ANNIHILATED MONTREAL 40 TO 24!!
We didn’t use the AC yesterday and it was still smoky in here. Our sun was pink early this morning and now going a bit oranger as it moves higher in the sky. The triathlon here was cancelled yesterday.
I’ve been on level #3 for the past 2 weeks, down south of you by Chelan……Things got better, then today the choppers started up again dipping water from the swimming hole in front of my property..
All we can do is keep our fingers and toes crossed..
Take Care..

We have been over 10+, not fun at all. If a helicopter hovered out front I likely would not be able to see it.
This has been one record breaking summer for you guys, such a shame about all those wildfires.
It has been a horrific summer mostly because of the smoke and the air quality. Then there is the fact that our business is shut down at the moment because of the fires.
My tomatoes, and some of my flowers, are also showing signs of stress and I think it is the smoke.
Good to know that is is just not ours. Too bad though.
Being cooped up inside makes you feel stressed out and you can’t keep running to town just to get out.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
I also feel as if all the whiteness is pressing out all the air around me.
The good news, if there is any to be found, is that the fire-load within the burned zones will be low for several years to come keeping the intensity of any return fires low.
Very true Greg but we are such a huge province with so much forested land. It is hard to believe that there is still so much to burn.
So sorry about your having to endure the smoke. It sure is a bad year for fires! As for beets, I’m not a big fan of the greens but fresh beets are one thing I miss by not having much of a garden. We only raise tomatoes now. Sometimes the Farmers Market has some nice beets.
You may need to take a trip away to get away from the smoke?
Well we are already leaving the end of September for six months. However I did say to Colin that we need to go somewhere. But pretty much everywhere around us and south into the US is also affected by the smoke.
Even here with the ocean breezes we had a similar evening with the smoke in the air and orange sun to yours. This morning the same, there was fine ash on my car after leaving it outside for only 1 hour. Very sad, I hope they manage to get it under control soon. I see rain in our forecast on Sunday, praying it comes without any lightening
If you are getting all that at the ocean’s edge than we are in deep trouble.
