Sirens and more sirens
We left home five weeks ago. It seems like much longer as we have packed a lot into our time on the road. Doesn’t the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta seems like so very long ago? We still have two more full weeks here in the USA before we cross into Mexico 😀 We have very few sirens where we live back in Canada and have had very few, some weeks none at all, in the past weeks. However once we arrived here in Las Vegas that has changed. A big city equals noise and for some reason I seem to hear mostly sirens. They even wake me during the night. Fortunately we are here only for nine days. We love it here, as we manage to get so much done for the RV, as well as prep for Mexico and just plain fun not to mention the perfect weather.
This past Friday, November 2nd was our final big shop before crossing the border into Mexico. Note that I said big shop, not final shop.
First stop was Walmart of course and this stop was our last Trader Joe’s stop for 2018. If I were an American this would be our main store. As you can see the Jeep is full. Under that colorful blanket is soil for both my flower garden and my veggie garden. Yes I can get soil at Home Depot in Mazatlan but for much more money and not the type that I need. We have lot of space so why not? PS…Rae, I think that blanket would be a perfect color for your new home. PPS…I am hoping that some of that Coke in the fridge will smooth the way as we hit our first inspection point in Mexico.
We travel with two five gallon bottles that need filling every now and then. We drink a lot of water. 40 cents per gallon is a lot but it is conveniently located here in the RV park.
My Amazon package arrived. Yes those are my new trekking poles or walking sticks, however you like to call them. But these are mine and mine alone and hopefully will open new vistas for me. Look at my smile.
Of course we did more things on the list. Here we have changed the frame which holds a magazine print of a truism, A Fable of Ambition, that we have kept in the RV for over 18 years. The frame was falling apart and so we replaced it. The words in our frame are similar to the following but a bit more simple. Easier for me to show you this off the internet.
I hope that you get the irony of the fable.
Also repaired this piece of faded wood in the bathroom.

Finally sunset and time to wind down.

Contessa, I’ve always heard it said that in the eastern US, New York is the city that never sleeps. However, in the western US, I feel strongly that Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps. What beats New York though is the climate, shopping, and prices.
So true, but I do love theater and music in NYC which happens to be one of my favorite places to visit. However I do love the Vegas weather and yes the lower prices.
Those trekking poles do come in handy we have a couple and use them on occasion.
Love that truism such a wonderful philosphy and so true. Nothings quite like the simple life to really enjoy it.
We have always loved that story about the Mexican fisherman. I am so happy to have the poles for when I need them. Of course I am good on the beach without them.
Hm-mmmm, more hiking in your future, perhaps? Have enjoyed your posts of the last few days – what can be next? Have you visited Hoover Dam – Still marvel every time we see it that it was ever built in the first place. Water level was low last time we were there and with all the droughts of recent years may still be low? Stay safe and continue to enjoy your trip.
I hope that there will be more hiking now that I have a way to help myself move. No we have not yet visited the Hoover Dam, good idea. But it may have to be the next trip as we are running out of time.
We, too, have noticed all the sirens in Vegas. But since becoming an RVer, I’ve learned to sleep through just about any noise. What kind of trek poles did you get? I’ve been thinking about getting some just for help with my balance when I walk.

Sounds like you are making the best of your time. We just got to AZ yesterday. Enjoying the warmth after the snow. Are you allowed to take dirt accross the border?
I figured that you would be arriving any day now. Too bad it never worked out for us to get together. Perhaps next year.
For certain no soil from Canada to the US. I don’t think that the Mexicans care. Last year they checked the car as well as the RV and saw the soil but said nothing.
Lots of sirens in the U.S. because it is so dangerous. Great story on ambition. Leave it up to Mexicans or Latins to have the answer.
Glad you like the story. I can’t comment on the sirens being more prevalent here because it is more dangerous here in the US. Perhaps it is more because of the large population and hence more accidents, fires, etc.
