Yesterday was a full day for us

We were heading into Mazatlan with Laura and Alan to show them our favorite shopping places.  This tug was pushing the freighter into place as we waited for the lancha.

Just across the shipping channel, right at the embarcadero, there is a fish market.  You can’t miss Colin with his bright socks.

Next stop was an ATM where Laura got a surprise.  Her four digit PIN number were letters.  Instead of remembering numbers she remembered a four digit name.  Apparently in Canada there are letters next to the numbers on an ATM machine.  I have no idea as I don’t use ATM at home, only when we travel and both here and Europe ( to date ) they only have numbers on the keypad.  What do they have in the US?  So we checked out a nearby phone booth and by looking at that keypad Laura was able to work out her numeric PIN.  Crisis averted.

Just as we were showing them the Panama bakery and restaurant near the mercado we bumped into friends.  Longtime readers will remember Hannelore and Peter ( blog readers for longer than I can remember ) whom we have met here in Mazatlan many times over the years.  They are here in Mazatlan for the month of February.  As soon as I saw them I remembered that.  Hannelore said that by reading the blog she was aware of how busy we were so she hadn’t made contact.  Not to worry we will for certain meet you.  Perhaps this time in the Golden Zone.  We have a friend playing in a band up there in the afternoons.  That might be fun.

Some construction right across from the mercado.

We walked around pointing out the best place to buy romaine, etc.  This booth is ready for Carnival which does not start until February 28th.

According to Colin this is the best booth to purchase those delicious mini apple bananas.

If you want to find Tony’s Burgers use the number three door.  We did have lunch here but it appears that we we all too busy eating to bother to take a photo.  Yes, it was that good.

It was time to head back to the Isla.  All these pelicans are waiting for a handout at the embarcadero.  The fisherman in the white boots would throw scraps from the fish he was cutting up.

Heading back to the peace and coolness of the Isla.  First trip to and from Mazatlan for Laura and Alan from this embarcadero.

After a wee rest we walked up the beach to El Velero where we met up with Scott.  The rock and roll band was playing full blast and our plan was to have just a drink and to leave at 5PM. That did not happen, a few of us had another drink and then dinner.  What the heck, why not?

A magical sunset as we walked back.

Scott left this morning, back to Canada to work but Laura and Alan have just over three weeks to relax and simply enjoy life on the Isla.  Adios Scott, it was very special to have met you.

Not so many great deals anymore as the prices have gone up due to the cost of fuel, etc. Mexico was much cheaper when you were here but no longer.

  2. That market – I love it, we go there every time when in Mazatlan. I missed going to the one in Zihuatanejo but it’s top of the list for the next visit

  3. Another busy day with friends in Paradise.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It’s about time.

    Hello,
We are so happy to have met up as if we planned it. Your suggestion for a get together in the Golden Zone is great. We leave it up to you when it is convenient. You are such social butterflies and free time might be hard to find. LOL.
We are exploring our familiar places.
Of course we walk on the beach every day.
    Have a wonderful weekend.
    Take care,
    Peter and Hannelore.

Your friends, Peter and Hannelore look so familiar and after thinking on it for awhile I believe we would see them at the “Blue Church” in Centro. I think Peter’s height would be hard to miss. They look well and happy. I wish we had met them – only just saw them several times. Wonder if that is correct?
